How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Fans of Starship Troopers will definitely appreciate both the action component of Starship Troopers: Extermination, and the curious finds with the construction of the base. However, I recommend waiting for a couple of patches that will fix the main problems that overshadow the gaming experience right now.

Starship Troopers: Extermination is a well-crafted PVE cooperative FPS that elegantly combines shooter elements with tower defense mechanics. Building a base and defending specific objectives adds a certain thrill to the game, even though the concept is still quite repetitive and somewhat lacking at this early access stage. The game definitely has great potential to captivate players and will surely delight fans of this universe, despite certain imperfections.

Starship Troopers: Extermination, like all Starship Troopers media made after 1997, isn't worth knowing (more) about.

Starship Troopers: Extermination is a chaotically fun game, especially for you to play with friends and de-stress after a tiring day at work. However, keep in mind that you will encounter bugs, and I'm not just talking about the giant insects that you really wanted to find to exterminate, but also collision errors, such as soldiers stuck in rocks or floating, insects appearing out of nowhere in front of you, and very crappy explosion and flame effects, like in the early days of video games.

Starship Troopers: Extermination is a fun, cooperative shooter that's easy to get into and hard to put down. Its clever base-building mechanics and ridiculous chaos are a delight, but constant performance issues, bugs, and instability keep it from greatness.

The whole aesthetic of the missions and the menus is retro PS3 at its best, but unfortunately the game's performance tanks when too many bugs are on screen, which is most of the time. Still, clambering over their corpses as the bodies pile up and making a final dash toward the extraction is a blast, and if you're a fan of Helldivers, this is a solid evolution of the genre and well worth your time.

The base game mechanics in Starship Troopers: Extermination is a blast to play, and the game loop itself is satisfying. Sure, I’m a sucker for the ‘horde shooter’ type games and mashing it with one of my favorite science fiction B movies was a sure-fire way to get me hyped. But more than that, Extermination is a great game, the models for the bugs look exactly like they did back in 97. Overall, the graphics in this early access game are quite good. In fact, my biggest issue with this game is that it IS an early access game. So many video games are releasing this way and I understand the invaluable contribution to the games overall success that having real players interact with it in this early stage. But the issue is the game is not feature complete, sure its fun for now but with the promise of that complete game later, I will just wait for the 1.0 release instead of playing the EA version in the run up to it. Starship Troopers: Extermination is an enjoyable game, but unless you plan on truly playing to follow its progress, id wait for the full release which hopefully also includes consoles.

Starship Troopers deserves a comeback. It's easy to imagine a production full of high-stakes combat with a story laden with funny moments, but.... Offworld Industries needs to tackle a significant production expansion to make the project appealing to many players. The team has a really difficult road ahead.

Fans of Starship Troopers and PvE shootouts should definitely have Extermination in their sights. It offers successful PvE multiplayer, where the piles of dead arachnids that remain there fascinate. However, there could have been more maps and singleplayer is boring and not even Casper Van Dien can save it.

Starship Troopers: Extraction is an amazing experience, but it isn’t perfect. The graphics are not great, the enemy AI has weird behaviours where they will run at you and almost clip and jump around making them very hard to hit and the bugs get stuck on the environment a lot but that does not take away from the boat loads of fun i am having.

Filling the shoes of a grunt in Starship Troopers was a childhood dream of mine. However, I can’t help but feel that although Starship Troopers Extermination does a decent job after a brief Early Access period, it still has its work cut out for it. Despite having a ton of things to unlock for each class, more content is desperately needed on the gameplay side. Especially if STE wants to compete in the already crowded online co-op shooter market. It’s reassuring that Offworld Industries acknowledges this through its roadmap, and I fully expect the game to change for the better with time. Despite an early stalemate, the United Citizen Federation’s future is bright with you enlisted soldier.
