How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

It’s always a joy to play a new indie title that you’ve never heard of or seen that immediately grabs you, and for me Space Otter Charlie did precisely that...

Despite a few niggles, Space Otter Charlie is a delightful, creative and fun game. There’s so many old school influences shining through here, a splash of family friendly Conkers humour, a structure similar to classic Zelda, traversal that feels like a modern day take on the Spectrum classic Jet Pac, that this game reminds me of the ‘good ol’ days’. If you’re in the mood for an old school action platformer game that benefits from modern day games design, this is the one.

Space Otter Charlie is a delightful and charming experience. Each time I picked up the game I constantly had a smile on my face. Some gamers may find the game a little too easy but if you’re looking for a heart-warming platformer with an Otter twist, then this is it! Space Otter Charlie is a welcome addition to anyone’s Switch and that’s a fact!

Space Otter Charlie is cute, fun, and easy to play with, clever but simple puzzles, enjoyable old-school boss fights, and plenty to explore, find, and craft. It’s a game aimed at a more casual demographic that I’m really not a part of, but that’s okay. I still found a lot to appreciate.

Space Otter Charlie is a lot of fun. The Zero-G puzzle platforming is great, as is the audio visual work. The multiplayer aspect is underwhelming but the campaign more than makes up for this with its inventive scenarios and levels. I highly recommend checking Space Otter Charlie out if you’re looking for a new platformer to play.

Space Otter Charlie tries to be the little space engine it could, and it somewhat succeeds in being a middle tier puzzle platformer that uses momentum and trap placement to test the player, but not be overly difficult in the process.

Cute and unassuming, Space Otter Charlie doesn’t reinvent the wheel. But it does provide a lovely few hours of entertainment. Its levels are a joy to explore, and even though traversal can be a bit of a pest, the game’s puzzles and satisfying upgrades more than make up for it. There are far worse ways to spend an afternoon than in the company of Charlie, that’s for sure.

Issues aside, Space Otter Charlie is a fun little title whose main gameplay gimmick is strong enough to keep you entertained until the very end of its duration. It’s a simple game, devoid of hard puzzles or meaningful combat, but charming enough to warrant a purchase.

Space Otter Charlie is a fast and extremely captivating game, as well as intelligent, that holds the player from the beginning to the end. With it you have fun and still learn curiosities about such cute animals that otters are. Despite crashing at times, the game is not compromised by this and manages to deliver everything it promises.

There’s very little to criticize about Space Otter Charlie; cute, charming, addicting, with solid gameplay to boot. Add in the fact that you’re an adorable otter working hard to save the rest of animal-kind, there’s a lot to love in this little gem.

With witty otter based puns, excellent audio and well designed visuals, this is a game that will make you smile from ear to ear. It’s family-friendly approach is a bonus, and I recommend you buy it here! Mankind has ruined the Earth for themselves and for every living being.
