Review sentiment over time

Weekly positive-review rate (green) and review volume (bars). Dashed lines mark significant patches; the amber line is the start of the current scoring window. Hover the dots to see what drove a dip or a jump.

How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Thief Simulator 2 is a great example of how creating a sequel to a simulator can pay off, but only if you know how to do it right. Although the change in developer might have seemed like a bad decision, it certainly wasn’t. It’s clear that the developers took great care with the final product. They’ve introduced a lot of new content, so players can spend several more hours robbing houses with a bit of adrenaline pumping through their veins.

Thief Simulator 2 is an amazing stealth simulation and has really improved on a lot of aspects from the first game. Its controls are easy to learn and can be fun for those who enjoy stealth simulations or just about any stealth game.

On the one hand, the game mechanics are very shallow, the visuals are ugly and have a cheesy feel. On the other hand, it offers incredibly well-dosed content, fun stealth, refined AI, unique mechanics and many other things for a low price.

Thief Simulator 2 offers exactly what fans want from it. It's certainly not a major industry milestone, but if you're looking a relatively fun stealth game, it's right here. More or less.

Thief Simulator 2 is a more of the same that takes up and improves the formula of the first chapter, but with some flaws, especially in the hitboxes, which need to be revised a bit.

Thief Simulator 2 is a funny game that excels in terms of atmosphere and tension. The game also offers quite a few gameplay features and hours of gameplay, as you may not have unlocked everything with about 15 hours of playing. The loading times are short, the adaptive trigger effects when lock picking are funny and some other details have been nicely worked out, such as the red-blue lighting of the touchpad when the police are chasing you. Thief Simulator 2 is an entertaining game for anyone who would like to step into the life of a burglar.

Thief Simulator 2 is not a bad game, per se. Far from it in fact, with its engaging central premise and core ideas giving a satisfying stealth experience that we don’t see often. However, everything feels surface level and just a little too janky. It reuses way too much of the original and doesn’t making any significant improvements where it was really needed. But there is still some fun to be had with it, if you’re looking for a basic stealth experience.

Thief Simulator 2 is a great improvement on the first instalment. I enjoyed playing the story missions and scoping out houses and found it fun to run from the police station. I love the lockpicking mini-game. It’s easy and fun to do. I also love that the game doesn’t take itself too seriously, leading to plenty of comical moments true to any good simulator game. For simulator lovers, fans of the first game, or a player who loves stealthy games, this game is for you.
