How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Aliens: Fireteam Elite may be a bit clunky, but the core combat is some good stuff and the RPG mechanics on top of it give it a nice sense of depth. Recommended if you have friends to play it with!”

“Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a fine co-op shooter in a beloved franchise. It can offer lots of fun and tons of shooting, which should be enough for at least a couple of evenings.”

“Very basic and formulaic co-op shooter which is too similar to what it tries to copy. Not the worst Aliens game, but not the best either.”

“Aliens: Fireteam Elite is probably what I deserve for getting my hopes up. But just like my plans for Summer of 2020, my hopes have been taken from me and ejected into the cold vacuum of space.”

“If you have the connection to support this “cloud play” game, it offers intense and compelling squad-based shooting”

“Besides the flatness of the levels and the AI/NPC issues, the game is actually enjoyable to play, especially if you are looking for a fun, brainless shooting game where all you have to do is unload bullets into creepy crawly things.”

“Aliens: Fireteam Elite mostly delivers the goods with a super solid squad-based shooter set in the Aliens universe. There's plenty to enjoy here, lots of fun nods to the movies, tons of lore, impressive attention to environmental detail and slick Xeno-slaying action that's enhanced immensely by taking the fight to the alien hordes with a couple of friends. It may be a little repetitive, there aren't nearly enough surprises and the campaign fizzles out towards its end but, grab some buddies, get your headsets on and crank up the difficulty and there's hours of properly intense, team-based action to get stuck into with this one.”

“Entertaining to play, but light on content and too repetitive in spots, Aliens: Fireteam Elite isn't without its charms. But the purchase price is a little high for what you get.”

“Aliens: Fireteam Elite is in no way the failure that Colonial Marines was. It's a fun squad shooter with just about enough features at launch to keep you coming back to replay missions and tackle the horde mode. However, it's not the strongest game of its type and really doesn't seem to fit the license.”

“Mowing down the last Xenomorphs in a swarm using the Smartgun and barely making it out alive to the nearby extraction point.”

“Aliens: Fireteam Elite is the co-op game that every fan of the franchise will want to play. The setting and the confrontation against the Aliens make it a very enjoyable experience for fans of the work of Ridley Scott.”
