How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Sloppy, buggy, and derivative, Twisted Tower can offer only a few moments of diversion despite a refreshingly short runtime. Instead, it furnishes its baffling world with constant reminders or just how little thought and intention has gone into its development. ”

“To put it bluntly, Twisted Tower isn’t anything special. I’ve played dozens of better, more original, and more distinctive boomer shooters. That doesn’t change the fact, however, that this is a very solid game that can be a lot of fun. The action is intense, dynamic, and has just the right amount of punch, and the story, despite its disappointing ending, is intriguing enough that you’ll follow it with genuine curiosity for most of the game. Twisted Tower may not go down in the history of the subgenre, but it certainly knows how to provide a few truly enjoyable hours of fun.”

“Twisted Tower is a fast, bloody and visually distinctive FPS that turns a warped 1950s amusement park into a surprisingly atmospheric shooting gallery. Creative weapons, bizarre enemies, satisfying gunplay and stronger-than-expected lore make the seven-to-eight-hour ride highly entertaining, although repetitive encounters, underused movement abilities and almost nonexistent puzzles prevent it from fully capitalizing on its twisted premise.”

“Twisted Tower features a theme that kept me extremely immersed from beginning to end. The puzzles scattered throughout the environments were also a great success and kept me interested in discovering what awaited me in each new room at all times.”

“I don’t think anyone is going to find anything exactly new in Twisted Tower, but I think that’s the point. It’s a throwback to some of the best parts of the seventh generation first person shooters mixed with the some of the best parts of what is now called “boomer shooters” and Twisted Tower blends them well. I liked what I played in the demo and I’m glad to see that it was indeed worth waiting for (there’s also like maybe a dozen people in the credits, so this clearly was a passion project). It’s some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time and it in no way overstayed its welcome like a lot of modern games do. I mean I’m literally playing it again after finishing it, I think that’s praise in itself.”

“From the title screen, I knew I was going to like Twisted Tower. Drawing on a clear love of Bioshock, it tells its own twisted story in a fun and creepy way. Satisfying, brutal combat will take you on a compelling, and gory, adventure to save the damsel in distress through a well-crafted carnival of madness.”

“In my view, Twisted Tower certainly bears a resemblance to BioShock and even a bit to The Backrooms. Yet this game has its own identity. The mystery and build-up of suspense, combined with excellent storytelling and humour, make for an ideal mix. This relatively short game is perfect for a quick play, and a real standout indie title. With his first 3D game (all his previous games were 2D), Thomas Brush has immediately delivered a real gem.”

“Overall, I was deeply and thoroughly impressed and entertained by Twisted Tower, which has become my new favorite game of the year. I highly recommend it to fans of BioShock, horror, or anyone looking for an incredibly unique and memorable gaming experience. The combat is fun, the level design and enemies are immaculate, and the setting is something that is certain to stick with you long after you’ve beaten the game, just like a recurring nightmare.”

“Twisted Tower is a creative, big-hearted carnival shooter packed with a wide variety of weapons, memorable mascots, and a setting horror games rarely explore. Rough edges and all, it's a genuinely fun ride well worth the ticket price.”
