How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 82 | 14 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 96% | 92 | 375 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 93% | 87 | 103 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.8, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 759 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“A pretty solid roguelike romp that’s may lack in the flair of bigger titles, but that still satisfies to a good degree”

“If you miss Dead Cells and are sad that its developers moved on to work on other projects, Dunjungle does a lot to fill that void. The game does plenty to satisfy fans of fast-paced roguelike platformers, with a cathartic and diverse combat and upgrade system bursting with customisation options to mix up each run. While Dunjungle won’t satisfy anyone looking for a deep narrative, its pleasing pixel art did enough to charm me. It may take a while to unlock most of its content, but once you’re past those slow early hours, Dunjungle is a load of fun and brims with variety. I had a great time with Dunjungle, and if you like roguelike platformers, you likely will as well.”

“Dunjungle is consistently fun and delivers a short, consistent experience for any player by choosing an ambiance that's considerably different from all the usual picks from other titles [in the market], something that should be just praised.”

“Dunjungle is a charming roguelite that deserves to be checked out by fans of 2D action games. Unfortunately, its constant flirtation with visual and mechanical repetition and its underwhelming performance on the Switch prevent the game from achieving greater status on Nintendo's console. In the end, for those interested in the genre and the concept, and willing to accept the aforementioned limitations with an open heart, there is a challenging and fun journey here, for everyone else, however, it is undeniable that there are more essential alternatives on the market.”

“Dunjungle presents a charismatic, accessible, and competent adventure within the action roguelite genre. Its pixel art direction, light humor, and agile gameplay make each attempt fun, even when the repetition of rooms starts to appear. Although it doesn't reinvent the genre and clearly follows references from other successful titles, the game still builds its own identity and offers a solid experience for those seeking something uncomplicated, addictive, and with constant progression.”

“Dunjungle takes familiar action-roguelike ideas and juices them up with smart customization, brutal-but-fair combat, and enough risk/reward temptation to keep every run exciting. It’s tough, occasionally cruel, and constantly enticing you to make bad decisions, which is what makes it so hard to put down.”

“Fighting your way through a jungle filled with lighthearted hilarity, tight combat, varied builds, and rewarding unlockables makes Dunjungle stand out as one of the best 2D action platformer roguelikes. So, go monkey around, chums! 🐵”
