How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| All-time Steam reviews | 82% | 76 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 83 | 23 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 90% | 84 | 3000 |

“Bonelab is similar to its predecessor in key ways, both the good and the bad. The game's physics driven world can be refreshingly immersive in the way that almost everything interacts together. But physics sometimes make the game less fun and even frustrating to play, especially when it comes to the game's many climbing segments. While there's lots on offer, including a campaign and several replayable mini-modes, they all suffer from the same core problems which is boring enemies with little variety, poor encounter & puzzle design, and bland weapons. In lieu of having those things provided for you, you'll have to extract your own fun by challenging yourself to execute stylish kills and physics-shenanigans with the game's all-you-can eat slo-mo feature. While the game repeats most of Boneworks key issues, this time around if offers proper modding support which could improve things significantly, that is... if the game's community is willing to spend the time building the toys this sandbox should have had from the start. ”

“A game that pushes VR’s boundaries. Strange, playful and committed to creativity, but intense if you're new to VR.”

“Bonelab is a near-perfect blend of sandbox and narrative gameplay that stretches the technical limits of the Quest 2. Its heavily physics-based gameplay is ground-breaking in many ways, offering ways for creative players to dispatch enemies like never before. Be warned, though, that this intense game isn't for the faint of heart or stomach and will make many people motion sick with its intense movements.”

“BONELAB is an incredibly interesting piece of tech with a terrible shooter holding it back. The physics barely work, the mechanics are cumbersome, and the puzzles are unintuitive and frustrating. There are a few moments where the combat can shine, but that’s not enough to make the game worth it.”

“Balance issues in combat and puzzles make Bonelab more of a physics playground with mod support than a well-done VR shooter.”
