How this trust score was computed
Trust blends alignment (40%): does the outlet rank games the way players do; decoded accuracy (30%): after translating the outlet's own scale habits (a '7/10 means mediocre' scale is decoded, not punished), how well its reviews predict player sentiment; and player-side (30%): on games where press consensus and players sharply disagreed, whose side it took. Recent reviews weigh more (2-year half-life), and the blend is shrunk toward a neutral prior (60) so small samples can't peg the scale. Player quality is launch-window Steam sentiment, so outlets aren't punished for reviewing a launch build that later got patched.
Controversy record: on 191 games where press consensus and players sharply disagreed, this reviewer sided with players 47 times.

Outlet vs. players
Each dot is a game both this outlet and players scored. The dashed line is perfect agreement: dots above it mean the outlet was more generous than players, below it more harsh.

“Star Wars: Zero Company brings the best of Star Wars to the XCOM style of gameplay. References abound for any Star Wars fan, no matter your favorite era of the Galaxy Far, Far, Away. It’s such a unique angle to tell another story of The Clone Wars from the perspective of contact workers from different backgrounds. Clones, Umbarans, former CIS advisers, Republic royalty, and lots and lots of mercenaries. Star Wars: Zero Company looks great, plays great, and keeps you on your toes (no matter how many you might have).”

“The Sinking City 2 is a thoroughly enjoyable descent into indulgent Lovecraftian goodness that occasionally genuinely impresses. In spite of some narrative and gameplay snags, it is a notable improvement over its predecessor in every regard. It scratches a Lovecraft x Resident Evil-shaped itch I’ve had for nearly two decades, and is an experience well worth sinking your time into.”

“Duskfade offers a heartfelt, emotional story, gorgeous visuals, excellent boss design, and plenty of hidden goodies to keep you scouring its beautiful locales for a couple dozen hours. The voice acting can occasionally feel a little awkward, and combat timing can take some getting used to, but it still remains one of the best platformers of the year.”

“Despite how enjoyable and devilishly moreish it can be, Splatoon Raiders does feel like a seismic rinse and repeat. The levels are lavish, the challenges are plenty, the compulsive qualities are undeniable, and its whimsy is as wonderful as always, yet it is hard not to feel like something more ambitious was left on the cutting room floor and Raiders really could do with more variation to keep the sense of monotony at bay. ”

“Mistfall Hunter is a fun but flawed ARPG extraction title that won’t be for everybody. The classes provide meaningful variety, but the game handles multiple archetypes more frustratingly than its contemporaries. If you enjoy ARPGs and extraction games, you’ll definitely get $25 worth of fun out of the game, but your mileage may vary due to repetition fatigue and a list of concerns about the game and its future.”

“While no masterpiece, Beast of Reincarnation’s engaging combat and bond-based core render it an endearing debut from a storied publisher. Check it out if you’re in the market for something different.”

“A good remake with a great additional story makes Halo: Campaign Evolved a worthy endeavor. My cherished memories of Master Chief in his original fight are here – almost too similarly crafted – and they look beautiful and play well. Operation: METEORITE and the seamless co-op are tremendously implemented, and here’s hoping this taste of future Halo is a sign of things to come.”

“DragonSword: Awakening is a gorgeous anime game that feels like they took Genshin Impact, stripped out the microtransaction garbage, and tied it together with a fun, interesting story. There’s still plenty of grinding and things to unlock, but nothing requires luck with a predatory gambling mechanic. The game has fun dungeons, solid characters, and big, flashy story moments you’ll have a good time with, all for less than half the price of a triple-A game. If you’re in the market for a fun game that’ll keep you entertained for a few dozen hours, you should definitely consider DragonSword: Awakening.”

“You might be sad that Rhythm Heaven Groove is the last big Nintendo Switch game, but just like the system itself, it’s full of surprises and quirks that’ll likely catch you off guard. Groove might appear to be a tough and demanding cookie on the surface with its emphasis on precision timing, but the way the game teaches and rewards you for playing are boundless, and it’s a breezy pick up and play game with a treasure trove of extras that’ll keep you wanting and craving more of it. Yeah you’ll need dedication and will incur bouts of frustration, but with all that’s stuffed into it-you’ll keep on coming back for more. ”

“Ultimately, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynched is a wildly successful reboot of a franchise favorite. Delivering more new content than I can readily list (as well as a new lick of paint!), it’s bound to make returning fans and fresh devotees as excited to set sail as we were more than a decade ago.”

“Star Fox is, at its core, just the same game we’ve been playing since 1997, but it’s also yet another reminder of how good that core game is. A short, immensely replayable title is refreshing in this day and age, and it feels enhanced by the focus on storytelling and cinematics. It has a few extra trimmings too, like Challenge Mode, Multiplayer, and a large swath of lore, but still leaves you wanting just a bit more.”

“Adventures of Elliot is a fun game with all the trappings of a solid action adventure RPG. It has great dungeon design, fun boss encounters, and plenty of discoverable content. The visual design is fantastic (despite some late-game stuttering on the PS5). The story feels like it treads familiar territory all too well, and the game effectively punishes you for avoiding side content, but there is definitely fun to be had. I just wish Elliot’s adventures had been a bit more narratively engaging.”

“Voidling Bound offers great third-person shooting, multiple creatures and paths to success, a ton of optional content to discover, and enough easy-to-use tools to keep you engaged for 10-20 hours. While it won’t satisfy multiplayer gamers or fans looking for an in-depth narrative, the game is a blast, and it keeps the dopamine flowing. You should check it out for yourself. ”
