How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“The Adventure of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a wonderful surprise. Whilst many expected nothing more than a simple Zelda game in HD-2D, Team Asano has ultimately delivered an action RPG with a distinct identity of its own.”

“We have on our hands an enjoyable game with some of the worst audio direction in videogame history.”

“The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an action RPG with some narrative unevenness. But when it comes to gameplay, it's a huge success. There's not just plenty of content (above and below the ground); there's plenty to appreciate. This is one HD-2D adventure that's worth a long look, especially for top-down Zelda fans. Here's hoping for a sequel that takes its time travel into the far future, preferably with a new companion alongside Elliot.”

“The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is forgettable in the worst way possible. It’s a safe, bland, paint-by-numbers RPG that too often feels like “Baby’s First Action RPG” rather than a fully fleshed-out adventure. There are flashes of something better here, but they’re buried beneath repetitive dungeons, toothless combat, timid time-travel ideas and irritating companion chatter. For a game about travelling across time, The Adventures of Elliot spends far too much of it wasting yours.”

“There’s a gripping experience nestled in the final few hours of The Adventures of Elliot, when its world, in its sweeping history, becomes your oyster.”

“Team Asano proves the HD-2D aesthetic works beautifully outside turn-based JRPGs. A Zelda-inspired adventure that respects its influences without being defined by them, with a combat customization system that keeps you engaged long after the credits roll.”

“The seamless change from turn-based to action combat proves how timeless the HD-2D art direction is. The Adventures of Elliot not only looks beautiful, but has a story to match. Elliot's journey transcends time and space to deliver an emotional gut punch that'll stick with me for a while.Despite performance issues on Switch 2, there's tons of gameplay variety and fun exploration, which makes it one adventure you'll want to make time for.”

“The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales delivers a charming action-adventure experience that blends rewarding exploration, engaging combat, and a beautifully crafted fantasy world. While its story pacing and enemy variety occasionally fall short, the game captures the spirit of classic Zelda adventures with modern presentation and polish.”

“Its engaging combat, rewarding exploration, clever customization systems, and gorgeous visual presentation combine to create one of Square Enix’s strongest action-adventure games in recent years. The story may be predictable, and the enemy variety is rather lacking, but neither issue detracts from an experience that consistently rewards exploration.”

“I had a great time with The Adventures of Elliot, and it’s another strong showing from Square Enix. It may not completely reinvent the action RPG genre, but it doesn’t need to. Instead, it focuses on delivering a polished, consistently entertaining adventure that reminded me why these kinds of games remain some of my favourites.”

“The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales is an amazing strong RPG underneath its limitations. The combat is fun, the world is stunning and well designed, and the visual design is genuinely impressive. When everything clicks, it feels like a modern take on classic RPG structure done right. For me it felt like going back in time to the release of Zelda.”

“The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales brings solid action-adventure foundations to the gorgeous HD-2D style, which has now reached its pinnacle. While the story and characters feel flat at times, it is an excellent first entry to what I hope becomes a formula that Square Enix uses more often.”
