How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 81 | 10 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 88% | 82 | 192 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 0% | 15 | 0 |

“Its approach is unique, but not executed well enough. There’s just not enough in the overall package to make tERRORbane an enjoyable experience, especially for those looking for something more than flat parody.”

“When it comes to adjectives I like to see associated with games, weird and funny are pretty high on my list, though I’ll concede that that doesn’t always make for a top-notch play experience necessarily...”

“tERRORbane is a must-play journey for anyone who loves gaming, especially 2D role-playing titles. Whoever thought discovering glitches and bugs in a game would be so funny and enjoyable!”

“tERRORbane is not only a one of a kind idea but it also gives the audience a fun experience filled with great comedy bits wrapped in a lovely art style and it is one of the few titles with a really unique identity.”

“I have to say I wasn’t quite sure how to rate tERRORbane. Since the game at its core really just has the player walking around searching for glitches and progressing the story. One could say this is a retro-looking walking simulator. This design most certainly won’t suit everybody, particularly if you’re looking for any form of challenge. At the end of the day, it did get a chuckle out of me now and then and the premises is most definitely different. So I guess I decided to settle on a solid recommendation. If you’re looking for something casual to enjoy you can’t go wrong here.”

“Look for the error in tERRORbane in an amusing yet quick and easy RPG throwback.”

“tERRORbane is a creative meta game where bugs are no longer annoying, they are cooked with care and served as a main course. Different from traditional games, the joy brought by tERRORbane comes from the absurd and humorous ideas of the producers.”

“A one-of-a-kind adventure in which players have to find as many bugs as possible and utilise them as creatively as possible.”

“It is less about being a “good” game and more about being an enjoyable and playful reflection on gaming’s past while serving as a self-reflective parody of the interaction between players and developers. The interaction between the developer and the player in tERRORbane is messy, combative, and antagonistic, but it is also thoughtful, concerned, and culminates as a unique bond. tERRORbane knows what it wants to be and defies convention to be an utterly unique experience.”

“It is not at all easy to do justice in written form to a product like tERRORbane, an indie experiment that defining particular is very little. The (pseudo) role-playing adventure of BitNine is a very successful divertissement, sincere and passionate in celebrating, even with sardonic doing, the videogame as a means of communication, its historical past, its grammar, its excesses.”

“tERRORbane is goofy and great. Throughout, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the swerve balls in gameplay and plot. It’s genuinely funny with a bunch of laugh-out-loud memorable moments. Unfortunately, this enthralling adventure is over a little soon but you can revisit areas to discover all the secrets. Packed with ingenuity, BitNine Studios have really put itself on the map with this gem.”

“I haven't played anything quite like tERRORbane before and its concept of making glitches fun is impressively satisfying and silly.”
