How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“A strong combat system that doesn’t punish players too harshly makes Asterigos: Curse of the Stars refreshing and approachable.”

“But I think that on balance, the whole thing works out to the game’s favor. This is definitely a title made with a lot of love and attention to detail, and while it’s hardly a flawless production, I think it’s worth checking out for people who sit on either side of the fence. If you’ve always wanted to love a Soulslike title but never quite got there, this might help get you over the hump; if you love them but don’t mind something being a bit more Souls-lite, this will delight you. It’s not going to make it on to my short list of worthy Game of the Year contenders, but it’s a solid outing all around, and that’s not nothing.”

“For what is the debut creation of a small indie studio, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is quite the impressive feat, and the team behind it should be proud of what has been accomplished here. A very good video game, however, this is not. Combat and generally the controls are good, the developer worked really hard to provide tons of world building, the whole thing looks pretty, and everything works as intended…but it’s just not that exciting. Almost everything on offer here sits exactly in the middle of the fun factor spectrum. It’s an okay game that lasts about 40 hours.”

“Due to its launch proximity to Elden Ring and the sheer quality of AAA Soulslikes, I suspect Asterigos may be unfairly overlooked. Nonetheless, it is a resoundingly enjoyable experience that I would recommend to any Soulslike fan.”

“While there are some notable flaws and shortcomings, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars does manage to entertain and provide the necessary thrills.”

“A decently fun action-RPG with a lot of exploration, combat and text.”

“Asterigos: Curse of the Stars uses the Souls template in a unique way that is more open to everyone. Not everything is good but my respect for this new developer is very high. At times the world is beautiful and the battles are also memorable, finding your own fighting style is also a fun activity and quite inspiring too.”

“Asterigos is a weird game in that it feels like it was so close to being excellent. The weird mix of mechanics do not gel well and parts of the game simply feel unfinished. Still it is a fun romp that could get much better with some patches and tweaks. I think the team behind it did a great job for their first game and hope they continue to get chances to make more. There are good ideas and characters here, it just feels like it needed more time or a bigger budget to reach their vision.”

“Asterigos is a title that will generously offer simple, pure fun, and an enjoyable adventure to anyone who isn't looking forward to playing the next Souls and keeps expectations low enough.”

“Acme Gamestudio and tinyBuild’s Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a solid adventure. Not simply following the standard Soulslike formula, they’ve gone and made it their own and have given us both the mysteries of the past as well as a solid journey in the present.”

“Overall, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars failed to really stand out above other games in the RPG action-adventure space for me. While the combat and leveling systems felt accommodating for both casual and tenured players of this genre, the lackluster environments and disengaging character interactions failed to hold my attention for any period of time. This game would, in my opinion, appeal to someone who is looking for a lighter adventure title centered more on the gameplay rather than the narrative.”

“Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is just plain fun. It's a solid, enjoyable and well put-together action-adventure game where my biggest complaints are largely nitpicks and a few qualms about the exploration. Sure, you can point to various things it was inspired by, but it manages to stand out on its own merits, and it's an enjoyable experience. The distinct art style and combat help it define itself, and the story is engaging enough to keep you interested. It's well worth a look if the concept remotely interests you.”
