How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 83 | 18 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 92% | 86 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 79 | 20 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 92% | 86 | 634 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Fast, high-octane action and an addictively moreish premise; Haste is an experiment that really shouldn’t work but absolutely does. It’s certainly not perfect, but what’s here makes this one of 2025’s best arcade games so far.”

“HASTE: Broken Worlds is exactly what 3D Sonic games should strive for, blazing speed, pinpoint precision, and the rush of mastering a deceptively brutal parkour system. Gotta go fast? More like gotta go HASTE.”

“Haste is a great game if you like fast-paced action, roguelikes, or just games that test your reflexes and accuracy. You'll keep playing it over and over again just to get that perfect run. It's a must-play for anyone who loves a good challenge.”

“So I leave Haste having got exactly what I wanted from it, no more, no less. Its momentum-based platforming mechanics are great fun that tap into that sense of satisfaction I love from the genre. While it could’ve done with a bit more variety in terms of boss and level design, the core gameplay is so much fun that I struggled to put it down, and I’m sure the endless mode will keep me hooked for quite a while.”

“My summarised answer as to whether or not you should pick up Haste is: “yeah, duh”. Do it right away. It stands out from a sea of generic roguelites by being completely focused on just a few core concepts, namely momentum, speed, and platforming. Thankfully, Haste delivers in all of these aspects, so what we have here is an incredibly charming game that is easy to pick up, hard to master, and even harder for you to stop playing.”

“Haste: Broken Worlds is a game that thrives on its gameplay feel, even if there isn’t much outside of its main missions that might catch you. Zoe and the rest of the cast might not have caught my imagination from a story standpoint, but knowing I can return to this game at any time to get new procedurally generated levels is the highest selling point for this game. Listening to the music as you speed through courses with tons of obstacles thrown at you is a high octane rush that I wish I could get more of in video games.”

“Haste: Broken Worlds is the answer to the question "what would happen if Sonic the Hedgehog had sex with Tiny Wings"? And the answer is a must play arcade/roguelike game.”

“It offers a refined arcade experience that grows in challenge and depth, combining the momentum-based gameplay of Tiny Wings with the speed of 3D Sonic, though it suffers from a repetitive boss design and a sometimes confusing interface.”

“Haste stands out within the roguelike format and will certainly find its fans, but it becomes repetitive in the very moments where it should grow and evolve mechanically.”

“Haste: Broken Worlds is a fast paced, frantic and colorful running game from which the Sonic Team has a lot to learn from.”
