How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

It’s nice to see a game trying new things, and Fallen Legion Revenants certainly does that, but the game’s actively hostile balancing takes away all of that goodwill.

It’s just unfortunate that for every improvement Revenants has made, so comes a consequence which hinders it. Yes, battles now require more skill than button bashing, but the sheer amount of time spent slogging away hampered my enjoyment considerably. Driving the narrative by talking to people midway through battles is a welcome change but.it is instantly counteracted because a short window in which to make important plot decisions is simply not enough time. Too often you vote on a subject without having the full story, and the outcome isn’t what you would have aimed for.

Overall, Fallen Legion Revenants provides a bit of a mixed bag. Sure it has some improvements over the past titles, but it also feels like it took some steps backwards. The battle system has some nice dynamic movement added and the guard/parry mechanic isn't infuriating, but the system can get extremely overwhelming, especially for new players to the series. The story is told partially in loading screen info which is a little annoying, and the storyline felt a little awkwardly told, as you aren't really getting the whole picture in the beginning, but was still rather engaging. The adjustments that have been made to the Exemplars and how they work are really nice to see, and I was happy to note the old art style was kept. In the end, Fallen Legion Revenants feels like a bit of a missed chance. The story is too interspersed between occasionally drawn-out battles that the pacing gets messed up a bit, and the action wheel graphics felt like a weird and awkward contrast to the rest of the art style. As a whole, Fallen Legion Revenants didn't really do anything wrong, but given how long it's been since the previous titles, I can't say I'm not a little bit disappointed. Is ti worth the price? If you enjoy engaging battles filled with strategy and tactics, yes, I'd say so, but there is definitely room for improvements.

I found myself much less interested in the characters or plot of Fallen Legion Revenants, and it's probably safe to just say I liked everything about this game less than its predecessor. I'm honestly disappointed. If developers YummyYummyTummy announce another Fallen Legion title, I promise they'll get my attention, but I'm going to have to wait a little longer this time before I let myself get excited.

Fallen Legion Revenants is a fine, role-playing title for those looking for something to grind. A deviant from the traditional RPG, that hopes to present something unique within a split story that occurs simultaneously.

Fallen Legion Revenants has some great ideas but they don’t all come together as well as they should. The battle system is deep but not friendly to newcomers. The political talking sections were a good idea but just didn’t seem to compliment the experience. Overall, it’s an original concept with some flaws. Worth a look if you want to try something different from the norm. But for a third entry in a series, it seems it should be a bit more refined at this point.

At its core, Fallen Legion Revenants is a good game. The ideas, story, and gameplay are all there, it just hinges on you being the type of a person it appeals to. For example, combat can be methodic and slow, though it rewards a tactical mind. The story is fascinating and has a lot to say, though it requires an interest in exploring the world to really get into it. As a result, there is a good chance you'll like Fallen Legion Revenants if you're into RPGs, but you need to fit one of the aforementioned molds to really love it.

Fallen Legion Revenants is a fun action RPG with a well done story that overstays its welcome with drawn-out combat scenarios and frustrating stealth sections.

Fallen Legion Revenants isn’t without its issues, namely in how chaotic combat can be at times due to players having to keep track of multiple characters in real-time. Additionally, countering can be tricky because the game doesn’t really telegraph when enemies are about to strike. Still, the branching plot is fairly compelling to those interested in a dark fantasy with a touch of emotional pathos, making Fallen Legion Revenants worth a look for fans of old-school JRPGs.

Fallen Legion Revenants feels like a game that actively fights itself. There’s a lot of potential here but it’s squandered by superficial ideas. Prolonging the combat with damage sponge bosses is a cheap way of doing it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind when this is the case. It’s the tedium of the system as a whole that has me scratching my head. Sadly, none of the potential this franchise has was realized with this entry.

Between memorable characters, dialogue options that will make you seriously think, and intricate battle systems, Fallen Legion Revenants is a great start of the year for fans of JRPGs and single player experiences in general.

There’s honestly not really anything good I can say about Fallen Legion Revenants. Messy combat combined with an unwieldy control system means it’s not fun to play. A boring and confusing story prevents you from getting invested in its characters. I don’t think it looks as good as previous games in the series. And its voice acting is unimpressive. I suppose it’s got a decent soundtrack? That’s about as complimentary as I can be. Ultimately, Fallen Legion Revenants is one of the worst games I’ve played in some time. And that’s not a nice thing to write as someone that enjoyed their time with Fallen Legion Flames of Rebellion
