How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.5, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 33,800 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

Simply put, Fields of Mistria is absolute magic. Even if you're tired of Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon clones the past few years, there's a ton of charisma and nuance in this farming game that will get you hooked.

This is a cozy sim your friends have probably recommended at least once or twice while it was in early access. Now in 1.0, the developers have shown that they made the most of that time to create something great. There are no more excuses to be sleeping on Fields of Mistria, not anymore.

Fields of Mistria is an exceptional farming game sim that stands tall among titles like Stardew Valley and the best Story of Seasons entries. It’s gorgeous. The gameplay loop is sharp. The characters are lovable. The sense of growth and progression is satisfying. Fields of Mistria is a fantastic way to spend 20, 50, or 100 hours of your life.

Fields of Mistria is a rare farming RPG that manages to improve upon the genre's familiar foundations without losing what made them so appealing in the first place. Its farming, RPG progression, relationships, exploration, and narrative all complement one another, creating an experience where nearly every activity contributes to the larger journey. A few rough edges in combat, resource RNG, and quality-of-life keep it from absolute perfection, but they do little to diminish an otherwise remarkably polished and thoughtfully designed experience. Fields of Mistria doesn't just prove that the genre still has room to grow, it sets an incredibly high bar for what a modern farming RPG can be.

A fresh face for farm sims that brings the magic back with the best-written cast I've seen from the genre.

Fields of Mistria is everything I look for in a farming sim, combining a lively village, strong characters, satisfying progression, and an addictive gameplay loop. The 1.0 release builds beautifully on the already impressive early access version, with improved day length, better quality-of-life features, and more room for the story to grow. Minor issues like some post-update lag and a slightly underwhelming museum barely hold it back. For me, Fields of Mistria is one of the best farming sims right now, with gorgeous pixel art, memorable NPCs, and a world I’m far from done exploring.

This is easily one of the best additions to the farming sims genre in a while. Even considering the number of excellent titles the genre has seen in the past few years, this one rates very highly. The charming art, the wonderful music, the great storylines, they all just come together so perfectly and will be enjoyed by anyone infatuated with farming sims or cosy games in general, as well as being a perfect entry point for anyone new to the genre. Now, to finally find that final ingredient for my engagement ring. Hold on, my beloved Juniper, I’ll be there soon!

In summary, my criticisms are that I want more updates. If you love Stardew Valley and Story of Seasons, Fields of Mistria is an easy decision–buy it, play it, love it. The game is so easy to get into, and I suspect many of us will keep this in constant rotation for a good while.
