How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Ghostrunner 2 is as exciting, hectic, challenging and satisfying as the original. It occasionally fails with some of the new ideas and for certain players, the degree of similarity between the prequel and sequel might be too great to warrant a purchase. However, it still is an incredibly satisfying and pretty slasher.

I wasn’t a believer at first, but Ghostrunner 2 won me over. Sure, the story’s forgettable, and the technical performance takes a hit here or there. But the combat is sharp, the platforming is sharper, and there are quite a few surprises lying in wait. (I’m intentionally not spoiling one of the game’s coolest gameplay twists, but trust me: It rocks.) If you have room on your 2023 gaming plate for one more adventure, and you’re ready to grind through the pain, Ghostrunner 2 is well worth your time.

Ghostrunner 2 is a sequel that tries to one-up the original game but loses some of its charm along the way. The new abilities, racing sequences and puzzles are cool, but overly long stages, inconsistent design and paper thin upgrade system drags the whole thing down.

Ghostrunner II offers a unique experience still unmatched in the gaming scene. The movement and combat system provides the smooth and exciting spark we came to know in the first installment, but don't forget a few appropriate tweaks. The combination of movement, katana, and special abilities make the fights addictive and fun. Unfortunately, the developers didn't make do with perfectly designed corridor levels. Despite the appealing graphics and great audiovisuals, they had to rush into a semi-open world that didn't suit the game.

Ghostrunner 2, the new release from One More Level, is a spectacular action adventure that tests our reflexes as we move at full speed through a cyberpunk world. With a duration of approximately 12 hours, this installment only needs a simple plot and a handful of new villains to offer an adventure that is strengthened with a couple of new mechanics and a simple but effective gameplay.

At its most mundane, Jack’s travels let players float through beautifully rendered sci-fi hellscapes with steps light enough to walk on water. And at its most astonishing and electric, this is a game of balletic death-dealing that may demand perfection but rewards persistence like very few other games in recent memory.

Ghostrunner 2 is undoubtedly a worthy sequel to the first game. It features several new ideas, and the developers have made a noticeable effort to improve some of the mechanics carried over from the original. Most of the changes are for the better, but there are also elements that don’t quite fit the game’s concept. You can look forward to great dynamic gameplay, fantastic parkour, and challenging combat where you have to carefully choose the most effective path to your goal. Add to that the impressive graphics and a fantastic soundtrack, and you’re in for a treat.

Ghostrunner 2 perfects the proposition of the first game. It's marvellous fun, but niche with it for all manner of reasons. Proceed with caution then, but know that if it works for you, it will really work.

Ghostrunner 2 adds some new ideas and improves on the old ones, making this already high paced, high adrenaline, one-hit-kill action packed FPS even more challenging and fun. The new bike sections are great and bring something new to the game, but the open world is lackluster and empty. I hope that Ghostrunner 3, if it ever sees the light of day, will be able to improve on the open world aspect but keep the overall feel of the game.

Although Ghostrunner 2’s attempts at expanding its setting fell flat, and I wish it ran better, its central action feels sharp thanks to its empowering movement abilities, extensive offensive tools, and pulverizing but generally well-designed enemy encounters. Most of these thrilling sequences require acrobatics that had me frantically switching between maneuvers as I narrowly avoided bullets and blades. While it has some weak stretches, and its cyberpunk narrative doesn’t offer much to the canon, its frenetic platforming was enough to keep me plugging back in.

Ghostrunner II is a frenetic and tremendously enjoyable FPS that builds upon everything that made its predecessor great and introduces some amazing mechanics that keep it all satisfying, and above all fun, although the motorcycle sections and some minor bugs dragged the experience a little bit it's still an easy recommendation for fans of the genre.
