How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Assassin's Creed Valhalla is still an Assassin's Creed title, but the one that manages to left behind some questionable things from the last two games, all the while presenting us with a much greater direction, a really dense map, engaging plot, and a breathtaking setting.”

“Most recent installment of the Assassin's Creed series do not even tries to be like the original trilogy, but if you have liked last two games, you will also love this one.”

“The game is fairly dedicated to correcting many of the worst creative decisions made across the lifespan of the Assassin's Creed series.”

“Assassin's Creed Valhalla is finally what I've been waiting for from this series for years, and as a former fan who had given up on the Assassins due to certain shortcomings, I'm glad to be able to return to the Assassin's Creed series after several years, and perhaps even go back and play the previous two installments of this modern trilogy. A must-play for fans. For newcomers or former fans, a spectacular and high-quality return to the world of the Assassins. Eight and a half out of ten.”

“Eivor is a fun character who provides lots of entertainment as you play through their story. The game is enormous and will keep you entertained for ages, with the content engaging and truly compelling, meaning you'll want just one more quest, one more go.”

“Assassin's Creed Valhalla is too much of the same thing, and it's not nearly engaging enough.”

“A few finnicky glitches here, a few difficulty problems there, and I'm still happy to call this game the best in the franchise since Black Flag in 2013 (ironically enough, the last title in the franchise to bridge the gap between generations). Assassin's Creed Valhalla proves that even the big big companies can find ways to bring tons of heart and charm to a cash cow franchise all while embracing its past and setting up for an exciting future.”

“This game delivers one of the best open-world experiences, topped with the possibility that the ever lost Assassin's meta is still alive.”

“Despite numerous technical issues, Valhalla is still a very good game. It's the best one among the RPG-oriented Assassin's Creed titles and one of the best games in the series. Ubisoft listened to the fans' complaints about Odyssey and created a game that successfully pleases the entire fanbase.”

“While the two previous entries took some daring and engaging steps into the RPG genre, it’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that truly stands out as not just the most refined of the trio, but as a top-drawer RPG in its own right.”

“With Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Ubisoft has given me another pair of the super comfortable shorts I’ve grown accustomed to, but with a few welcomed changes. Very few.”
