How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Featuring characters more unfamiliar to American audiences, the pacing of this beat-em-up is also quite unique

Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All 2 is a proposal that will satisfy those looking for a sidescrolling beat'em up for small doses of action, of course fans of Asterix and Obelix, but also younger players, since the presentation and easy mechanisms prove to be very good entry point.

In short, "Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All 2" is a 2D fighting game based on the comic book adventures of Asterix and Obelix. Fans of the series can play for the sake of the old days, but let me tell you that it is not a game that will be played over and over again. You grab a bag of your chips and drink, you're already bored by the time they're gone.

Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All! 2, like the game before, is just a massive love letter to the series. The game is packed full of meta-humor and references and stays loyal to the franchise the game is about. The gameplay is incredibly solid and fun, and the game never overstays its welcome. Despite all this, the game is not for everyone.

The developers promised that Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2 would be a better game than the first, and they succeeded. But it's just a little bit better. While the game is fun and more varied, and still looks and sounds great, it's short and still pretty shallow in the end. What saves it is the fun co-op and the extended combat system. The story isn't bad either, and shows us that the developers would like to continue the series.

Asterix and Obelix: Slap Them All! 2 could have been a tremendously fun arcade-inspired side-scrolling beat 'em up. Instead, it's a boring, lifeless, repetitive, and unfinished mess. Avoid like a menhir to the face.

Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All! 2 still isn’t the best example of the side-scrolling beat ’em genre, then, but it is undoubtedly an improvement on the original game. While Streets of Rage 4 can rest easy as the king of the genre, Slap Them All! 2 can provide hours of fun, especially for fans of the Gallic warriors. We’d certainly welcome a third adventure, anyhow, complete with further improvements.

With games like Streets of Rage 4, Mother Russia Bleeds, River City, Shredder’s Revenge, and many other vastly superior contemporary options, I don't find any reason why you should spend time with this game.

I had high expectations, but they were never met. Additionally, none of the shortcomings of its predecessor were addressed. As such, though the plot and exceptional graphics will impress you, little else will. Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 disappointed me and I cannot recommend buying it. However, more information can be found here! Can you free the prisoner? Explore the world, fight the Romans, and complete your arduous adventure.

Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All 2 takes up the strengths and weaknesses of its predecessor, because both visually and playfully it has confirmed itself as an all-too-conservative sequel.

In Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All 2 the asset reuse rhymes with a missed occasion. As the drawn graphic and the original plot tries to do something new for its genre, the game falls again into a massive reuse of what done in 2021. It's still a fun game and it can be a good solution to share some good evenings playing together with a friend, but only the most irreducible fans will accept to buy it.

Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All 2 may not be the longest of games or the deepest of games, however it does pack a lot of fun into the package. Is this game on the same level as Streets of Rage 4? No but what it does it does well and I would recommend it to fans of the franchise and people looking for a chilled out Co-op game to play. With its short length (most complete in about 4-6 hours, it also does not overstay its welcome.
