How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 79 | 68 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 91% | 85 | 322 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 91% | 85 | 7 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy might be the strangest gaming experience I’ve had in a long time. This is a remake of a 1999 first-person point-and-click adventure, and while it vastly improved the visuals of the entire experience, the controls are still stuck in the past.”

“I find it difficult to recommend Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy to anyone other than the biggest enthusiasts of Benoit Sokal's work. However, if you don't mind terrible optimisation, archaic movement mechanics or a plot focused on gathering information about past events instead of experiencing them, the remake will take you to a truly unique universe accompanied by an absolutely beautiful soundtrack.”

“Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy is a fantastic adventure game and a great remake. What Microids has created here is a great tribute to Sokal's original work, producing something far more lavish and accomplished that manages to carry the charm and emotion that the storytelling deserves. A real good 'un!”

“Microids has created a good remake from a graphical point of view, managing to expand an adventure that was originally very short. However, the first-person view with static and non-freely explorable scenes is too anachronistic nowadays, as are some puzzles that are too simple. In any case, Amerzone - The Explorer's Legacy has a nice plot, interesting characters and remains a nice tribute to the memory of Benoît Sokal and is a good opportunity to discover his first game, considering the budget price at which it is proposed.”

“Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy is a faithful remake made with love by people who care for the game and for the legacy of Benoît Sokal. It’s certainly made for people who grew up with the original and might disappoint ones who are used to more complex adventure games. But if you like Amerzone and what it stands for, Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy certainly won’t disappoint. Pouring one out for Sokal. May you rest in power.”

“Amerzone - The Explorer's Legacy pays tribute to an iconic game with a good story, puzzles, and gorgeous visuals. However, I would’ve preferred the gameplay to feature much more modern mechanics while keeping the ones that made the game a classic.”

“Amerzone, The Explorer's Legacy revamps a classic adventure that's great fun for puzzle fans who enjoy scouring the environment for clues. It's easy to get lost in the wonder of Amerzone without feeling too frustrated. However, the experience also brings some flaws from the past that haven't translated well to the modern gaming environment. This makes the game great for a blast from the past, but a tough recommendation for modern puzzle players.”

“The new Amerzone does this brilliantly, taking the original as a story base and improving on it with each part. You may have played the original adventure many times, and the gameplay will be completely different for you, but the atmosphere will be very familiar. Just take it.”

“Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy is a very good remake of an already well regarded puzzle game. While the story is a little predictable, it looks very good, the puzzles are well designed, and the environmental story telling is well constructed.”
