How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 70 | 52 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 67% | 65 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 54 | 80 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 46% | 49 | 71 |

“Throne & Liberty represents a significant step forward in the MMORPG landscape, thanks to its technical innovations and meticulously designed world. Large-scale PvP battles, the guild and alliance system, and the integration of a dynamic world make it a unique title in its genre. However, the game faces significant challenges, such as the negative perception of its monetization system and the initial difficulties for newcomers. For genre veterans, the game offers a deep and engaging experience, while new players must be prepared to navigate the initial hurdles. Despite its flaws, Throne & Liberty stands as an ambitious and innovative MMORPG, capable of entertaining long-term players looking to immerse themselves in its vast fantasy world.”

“The game’s world is just gorgeous, lovingly put together, and more than that, is built to the scale of a proper MMO worth your time to try for the price of free. I can very much see Throne and Liberty finding its fans for the things it does well even if it isn’t sweepingly innovative for the genre as a whole, and that’s more than you can say for a lot of new MMOs and MMO-adjacent titles.”

“Throne and Liberty is an entertaining and well-made MMORPG, boasting spectacular graphics and an active community that brings it to life. However, its lack of innovation in some areas and its potential leanings toward unfair monetization take away some points. Even so, it’s a recommended title for those looking for a new MMORPG with vast landscapes, global events, and cinematics that immerse players in the story. Throne and Liberty is a solid game that, while it doesn’t revolutionize the genre, delivers on its promises: an epic and enjoyable experience, with moments best experienced by diving into its expansive world alongside other players. It may not be the greatest MMORPG of all time, but it’s certainly worth a shot if you enjoy the genre. If NCSoft manages its monetization and future content wisely, it could become a standout title.”

“I see that Throne and Liberty offers a solid, fun and content-packed experience, very reminiscent of the more “classic” MMORPGs. However, it also has its differences, which are very welcome.”

“Throne and Liberty is an ongoing game, so the story could become more fleshed out, the mechanics you use to interact with the world could become more nuanced, and the technical issues could be fixed. But as it all stands now, it's just an okay way to dip your toe into a relatively console-friendly MMORPG that doesn't demand endless amounts of your time for you to enjoy - although there are better games to play with your precious hours. If you're looking for something deeper than that, though, you won't find it here.”

“Throne and Liberty presents itself as an ambitious and risky proposal to encompass a classic traditional RPG concept with new, more dynamic mechanics and top-notch visuals. The storyline is full of stereotypes, but it’s enjoyable, providing an adventure that includes a massive tutorial to cover various PvP and PvE game modes. It’s a universe to get lost in, but where modern mechanics, giving rewards too quickly, could carry the user to an end where only finds a monotony experience too soon.”

“Throne and Liberty is a visually stunning MMORPG that brings a lot to the table with its lush environments and old-school PvP gameplay. However, its overly complicated mechanics could prove to be a significant barrier for many players.”

“Throne and Liberty is an MMORPG that brings back the spirit of the classic games of the genre, while introducing some modern features that give it its own character.”

“At its core, THRONE AND LIBERTY surely didn’t take any lessons from their failed predecessors and kept trying to pull off a PvP-focused experience that PvE threw in as an afterthought. Without realizing it, most players don’t spend most of their time in PvP in MMORPGs and games in general, with a few notable exceptions.”

“Throne and Liberty is an attempt at a unique MMO that succeeds late in the game. That is, if you can get to that point. Unfortunately, the onboarding process, which the game calls its main story, takes just enough time to make you contemplate dropping it at certain points. It’s also lacking any compelling reasons to get you immersed in its lore. Then again, the game is very, very pretty, make no mistake.”

“Throne and Liberty delivers a visually stunning experience with a wide variety of content and large-scale events. Its flexible combat system and solid optimization make it accessible to a broad range of players. While the vertical progression could pose a challenge for new players and there are still some monetization aspects, the game strikes a good balance between accessibility for newcomers and depth for veterans, establishing itself as a strong contender in the MMO genre.”

“Throne & Liberty was a game I wanted to love. It was something I had anticipated for roughly a decade with the hope in my heart that it would be good. I see the skeleton of something I adored, the massive PvP battles, the caution that came with entering places like the Ants Nest to get rare jewelry and a social component that I honestly sorely miss. But the poor localization, an uninteresting story, and the reliance on PvP for progression makes the game a hard recommendation. It’s a shame, because there is a glimmer of something great there, but Throne & Liberty just isn’t that.”
