How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Fading Echo proves to be a bold debut, one that rejects today’s obsession with punishing “Souls-like” standards to lovingly embrace the immediate creative freedom of the adventure platformers from the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 eras. The Emeteria studio hits the mark when it lets pure gameplay take center stage, transforming the physical manipulation of fluids and the solving of environmental puzzles into a brilliant gaming experience, supported by a visual and audio identity of exceptional artistic value. However, the complete absence of basic navigation tools, an overly permissive combat system, and a series of obvious technical and design rough edges prevent the game from reaching the absolute heights it aspires to, leaving players with a gem featuring magnetic gameplay that is, inevitably, still a bit rough around the edges.

With good ideas and fun gameplay, Fading Echo entertains and presents cool concepts, but ultimately falls into repetitive combat, and the narrative isn't as captivating, although exploration and puzzles remain the game's high point.

Fading Echo delivers exceptional environmental puzzles, rewarding exploration, and gorgeous visuals, but repetitive combat, uneven storytelling, and technical inconsistencies prevent its brilliant ideas from fully reaching their remarkable potential.

Fading Echo is a great debut. It’s a stylish game that’s easy to recommend. However, I think it stops just short of being able to be called a must-play. The transformation mechanics and elemental gameplay are genuinely fun for a time but can get repetitive. The art direction is wonderful, and the lead actor’s performance carries the game where the gameplay and choppy cutscenes can’t always support it on their own. Some minor technical hiccups and confusing navigation undercut an otherwise satisfying experience. All in all, none of the negatives are enough to sink the game. I think it’s a game you’ll enjoy for the ride, and it will definitely make a few waves.

Fading Echo is a platformer with a beautiful, impressive world full of surreal dimensions. The combat is simple: kicking enemies away is effective but quickly becomes monotonous. The game mechanics involving water, acid, and lava could have been developed further to make the game more challenging.

For 20€, Fading Echo offers a rhythmic adventure, punctuated by phases of puzzles featuring multiverses and elements, a demo must always be available if you want to get an idea before going to save Corel. A few frustrating and redundant moments in this adventure around 8 hours while struggling a little or looking for all the pots at XP.

Fading Echo is a really great idea with some unique aspects which is exactly what I was hoping for when I first saw the game. I think Emeteria succeeded what they were going for and it is an overall enjoyable game. I do wish that there was more variety in combat and enemies, it just got quite a bit repetitive in that aspect. However, the puzzle design is great and that is what kept me engaged throughout.

Fading Echo is a simple but charming adventure, elevated by its excellent Brazilian Portuguese voice acting, fun elemental mechanics, and appealing visuals. While navigation can be frustrating due to repetitive environments and a lack of clear guidance, it's still an enjoyable experience that succeeds in what it sets out to do.

While Fading Echo appears like yet another action platformer, it quickly sets itself apart with its element manipulation features and intense gameplay mechanics.
