How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Ground Zero Hero is an addictive experience full of zany humor. It takes the Vampire Survivors concept and adds its own twist along plenty of chatoic on-screen action.”

“A weird, wild, and wacky take on the Vampire Survivors formula that works out better than expected”

“Ground Zero Hero is a fun, engaging little indie roguelite that's hilarious and frustrating in almost equal measure.”

“Ground Zero Hero has taken over my free time as the game I play in spurts here or there. It is just as addictive as Vampire Survivor was when it first dropped but even more so.”

“Ground Zero Hero is a colourful, chaotic time-sink that respects both short sessions and longer binges. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does enough new to pull in fans of the genre.”

“Ground Zero Hero is a title that knows exactly what it wants to be: a celebration of visual madness and the pure fun that comes from the exponential growth of a monstrous character.”

“Ground Zero Hero carves out its own identity as a wonderfully absurd nuclear wasteland romp. It's something like Vampire Survivors filtered through Fallout, then handed over to The Simpsons for a rewrite. It's rough in a few places, but it's hard not to enjoy your time in this particular corner of the apocalypse.”

“Ground Zero Hero certainly brings unique elements to this genre, but it also fails to innovate intensely. You quickly get tired of the day-night cycle, and the mutations you have and can level up throughout the run aren't unique anymore after a short time. However, by unlocking new maps and mutations, it somehow remains addictive to keep playing. It took me about 5 hours to reach level four, the red Alien planet, and then there is still a final planet to go. Fortunately, the bosses are fairly easy, and when you can no longer upgrade, you can top up your health, candy, and money. After a few hours, I quickly lost track of time, considering a run only lasts about ten to fifteen minutes. Ground Zero Hero is therefore a title that really appealed to me, and is one of the best Bullet Heaven titles at the moment.”

“Ground Zero Hero delivers a fast and entertaining arcade experience, combining chaotic combat, creative mutations and constant progression in a simple formula that is easy to enjoy.”

“Ground Zero Hero is fast, frantic and funny. It’s got real notes of unhinged humor, works great on Switch 2 (some minor stuttering when things get super busy) and is a great pick-up-and-play title. It doesn’t expand as much as I’d like, but the different worlds, missions and upgrades will give you hours of explosive, bonkers entertainment.”

“Ground Zero Hero doesn't reinvent the survivor-like genre, but its distinct art style and addictive gameplay loop make it hard to put down. It feels like a throwback to the games we used to sneak and play during computer class in the early 2000s, a nostalgic feeling few games capture today.”

“Ground Zero Hero actually offers more content than its “budget cousins,” but it is far from possessing the shine (literally) that its main inspirations managed to deliver.”
