How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“It may not reinvent the superhero video game format, but Spider-Man 2 refines what came before and gives us an adventure that carefully balances gameplay and storytelling while keeping us entertained even after the credits roll.”

“Spider-Man 2 continues the high level of slickly presented entertainment seen with Insomniac’s first jaunt to Manhattan. Playing as the Spider-Men is yet to be anything other than beautiful, both figuratively and literally. Great as it may be, it's held back by some dodgy writing that fumbles its payoffs and dips too often into waffle. Between those moments of deflation, however, there is a truly gorgeous and absorbing game packed with delightful action where simply moving feels good.”

“Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an extraordinary game that provides an unforgettable experience. Insomniac Games has taken care of every detail. How they have adhered to an immersive storyline and smooth movement around New York City is something wonderful. The protagonists, Peter and Miles, are different thanks to their skills, which adds depth to the gameplay. Side quests are real gems that can be touching. The game looks beautiful, although there are some uneven visual points. The soundtrack is great, although there is a lack of some memorable tunes. Despite minor bugs, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an amazing experience.”

“Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the best technical showcase on PlayStation 5, one of the best games the platform can offer, and just a great Spider-Man story.”

“Marvel's Spider-Man 2 delivers what we loved about the first installment. The story offers a spectacular narrative of familiar faces coming together to create the best video game story about a spider hero. We can't overlook the small effort to innovate and experiment with gameplay mechanics. Insomniac Games plays it safe and tries to please fans of all kinds. As a result, the game contains parts that will undoubtedly frustrate you, but that doesn't mean it will ruin the sequel's epic experience.”

“Sony decided to release its only exclusive this year only at the end of autumn, but it turned out to be excellent. A great storyline, an even more varied combat system, luxurious graphics - if you don't count the claims to the open world, it turned out to be an exemplary exclusive and wonderful action.”

“Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the acclaimed title from Insomniac Games, finally arrives on PC, bringing superheroes back to a time when things were simpler and perhaps better. It is an extremely appealing video game, with polished gameplay and a very interesting world to discover. While its technical issues detract from the narrative, it is a very enjoyable video game that breaks with current conventions and the fatigue inherent in open worlds.”

“In Spider-Man 2, we have the most elevated idea of what a AAA open-world game could be. Insomniac’s New York City isn’t an empty place for the player to destroy at will, Peter and Miles aren’t audience ciphers, and the story isn’t there for padding. Great power has been employed to bring this world to life on a scale unprecedented, even for AAA games. Insomniac’s great responsibility was in filling that world with life, love, and something even Peter’s Uncle Ben forgot to imbue his nephew with, and most games of this type must aspire to emulate: Insomniac’s Spider-Man sequel is a game driven by great purpose.”

“Marvel's Spider-Man 2 offers flawless audiovisual presentation, a completely smooth 60 frames per second, and a dark, mature storyline that builds gradually throughout the entire campaign. Freedom to move throughout New York and its outskirts, two playable characters, a ton of upgrades, combat combos, and amazing boss battles. In my opinion, this is one of the best games ever released and one of the top titles on the PS5. You won’t find anything better.”

“Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a safe but solid sequel to one of the best superhero games ever made, and one that's only real problem is its lacklustre PC port.”

“Honestly, if your biggest complaint about a story is that it ended too soon, you can't help but acknowledge that it did a lot of the things right. Spider-Man is an icon that has endured through changing times, living on in the pages of comic books and the grain of moving pictures. And more than any other hero, the beloved bug has found a home in video games. So, there is a considerable history to reckon with. Insomniac's Spider-Man sequel does just that and more. It tips its hat at Spider-Man stories that came before, and then turns around to tell its own. Spider-Man was swinging before; the friendly superhero is now gliding over his neighbourhood, feeling right at home.”
