How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Godbreakers is a game with a fantastic core that ultimately falls short due to a lack of content. The combat itself is among the best in the genre, thanks to smooth controls and the Godbreak mechanic. The problem is that there isn’t enough of it, and you’ll see everything the game has to offer in a single evening. The ability-stealing mechanic is a great idea that wasn’t fully realized, and the unbalanced difficulty for solo players is a letdown. If you have a group of friends and are looking for a one-time, incredibly stylish, and fun cooperative brawl to last a few hours, Godbreakers is a great choice. However, if you’re looking for a deep roguelike that you’ll return to for dozens of hours, you’ll quickly be disappointed.”

“Godbreakers is a bit rough around the edges and desperately needs a few updates and polishing, but the core gameplay as well as co-op is solid, showing plenty of potential.”

“Godbreakers is a game that is technically impressive, stylish, and at times downright addictive. But that divine power isn’t without its flaws. While the combat initially captivated me, it starts to feel repetitive after a few hours; while the co-op shines, the solo experience falls a bit flat; and while the concept is intriguing, the narrative remains in the background. GODBREAKERS offers a solid dose of fun, especially in co-op, and shows how kinetic action should be brought to a console.”

“Godbreakers takes what works, fast, fluid combat and satisfying progression and adds enough of its own personality to keep things exciting. The absorb-and-attack mechanic is a clever twist, the boss fights are intense, and the co-op potential is huge. If you’ve been burned out on roguelites, this might not shake that feeling entirely. But if you’re looking for something with punchy combat, strong replay value, and a good excuse to yell at your friends over voice chat, Godbreakers is worth diving into. A free demo is still available on Steam.”

“Godbreakers is a high-octane, chaotic joyride that perfectly blends fast-paced action with the strategic depth of a roguelite. Its core mechanic of stealing divine powers and chaining them into devastating combos offers immense player expression. While the screen can become a bewildering mess of effects in 4-player co-op and the environmental variety wears thin over time, the pure 'pick-up-and-play' appeal makes it a fantastic addition to any co-op library. It’s hectic, rewarding, and undeniably fun.”

“Godbreakers bursts with flashy combat, epic bosses, and a killer soundtrack, but shallow builds, weak levels, and unresponsive controls keep its strong ideas from truly shining.”

“GODBREAKERS is an action experience in the roguelike style that combines fast-paced combat, an engaging progression system, and a unique visual world, immersing the player in a cycle of challenge, defeat, and victory. The design of diverse bosses and enemies, the ability to customize builds through the Godbreak system, and the harmonious rhythm of music and sound effects create an immersive and exciting experience.”

“GODBREAKERS is a title that knows how to entertain. It has style, rhythm, and a soul that looks with respect to the greats of the genre, but fails to take flight due to its limitations.”

“GODBREAKERS is a great game for people who want fast, fun fighting and a game that rewards skill and trying new things. The most fun will be had with premade multiplayer groups, but solo players can still enjoy a well-tuned roguelike that can be played a lot of times in the 10–15 hour content timeframe.”

“My journey with Godbreakers lasted for over a dozen hours, but, I actually finished the game in under ten. I had so much fun, that I kept fighting bosses and unlocking new cosmetic extras even after finishing the campaign. After a while, the lack of enemy variety and the limitations of the combat system started to wear on me, but I’ll happily return once an update drops. It’s an enjoyable and rather small title that could really benefit from more content.”

“A stilish roguelike which is fun in multiplayer but feels underdeveloped under several key aspects.”

“GODBREAKERS is hands-down one of the best games I’ve had the pleasure of playing this year. It embraces the core genre mechanics without succumbing to the pitfall of a monotonous game loop. Quests that play alongside the story for things as simple as different cosmetics and abilities provide ample objective-driven gameplay. With its own namesake ability system, and not another character spewing bullets/abilities everywhere, this beautiful addition to the roguelite cabinet deserves the Thumb Culture Platinum Award. Be sure to check it out for yourselves!”
