How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Planet Coaster 2 has a lot of potential to become a great theme park sandbox. However, its many technical issues and bugs hold back what could be a smooth roller coaster ride.”

“Bigger can indeed be better. Planet Coaster 2 successfully iterates on the first instalment by adding interesting new concepts and gameplay systems that enhance the experience. Anyone who enjoys a management sim, tycoon, or just wants a fun park builder will find this to be a perfect match. Highly recommended. Get splashed!”

“While the tools to build your wildest dream parks are there and Planet Coaster 2 does everything it realistically can to show you how, making those dreams come to life is not an easy task. Frontier has improved what was already an excellent theme park management sim, it just isn’t for the faint of heart. Much like the coasters you might want to make.”

“Planet Coaster 2 offers a solid theme park simulation experience with the addition of water attractions that add some freshness to the formula. While customization tools have expanded, the core gameplay remains similar to the first game. Management systems are still simple and console performance shows little improvement, but designing and customizing a full park remains enjoyable”

“For those looking for a construction simulator with a focus on customization, Planet Coaster 2 is recommended. However, less experienced or patient players may feel unmotivated by the challenges posed by the interface and controls on consoles.”

“Planet Coaster 2 is a worthy sequel to the original and it seems Frontier has really listened to fan feedback and delivered what fans have been longing for. If you liked the original then you'll love this follow-up, but genre newcomers could find the sheer spectrum of options here a touch overwhelming.”

“Planet Coaster 2 is an excellent evolution of the first game in every aspect and still has plenty of room to grow over the years as more content and updates are released. However, it still suffers from some minor design mistakes and frustrating choices regarding guests complaints.”

“Planet Coaster 2 offers a genre-best box of creative tools and community-driven features and expands on its predecessor on almost every level, but chances are you won’t be as enchanted by its management systems, which continue to be a thorn in Frontier’s side.”

“Planet Coaster 2 is a bigger, badder version of the original. I spent countless hours building parks in that as well as their other titles such as Jurassic World. These types of games just resonate with me, at least the sandbox portions do. I highly recommend this game, but if you have the option, go with the PC version just for mouse and keyboard support. It really does enhance the experience. Either way, there are dozens of hours of fun to be had in the world of Planet Coaster 2.”

“Planet Coaster 2 successfully builds on the formula laid out by its excellent predecessor. Being able to construct water parks is a delightful addition, and the new career mode is even more engaging. But you'll have to tolerate a few rough edges.”

“Planet Coaster 2's flexible creation tools are as compulsive as ever, but the fun butts up against an exhausting UI, uninspired management gameplay, and conspicuous content gaps that feel like cynical spaces for DLC. ”

“Planet Coaster 2 is one of the pinnacles of the theme park simulator genre and while it doesn’t have a smooth learning curve for newcomers, it’s safe to say that those who have already mastered its systems will enjoy it immensely.”
