How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | 93 | 33 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 96% | 91 | 285 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 98% | 93 | 289 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 90.8, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 592 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“Double Jack's bold choice to make a rhythm game focused around hand tracking succeeds with style. Maestro is a breath of fresh air compared to every other VR rhythm game I’ve played over the years. While I lose interest in most rhythm games quickly, I can't stop playing Maestro, and there's a lot of room for growth from here.”

“Maestro passes the baton to you to be a conductor with outstanding results. The core gameplay is fine-tuned and authentic, with a soundtrack that's one for the ages - and not because it's a lot of old songs. However, with a lack of incentive to outperform yourself or peers, and no good way to play the game outside of going between songs for 2 hours, Maestro is slightly lacking in being an essential VR game.”

“Maestro is an addictive and satisfying experience. You have a selection of legendarily good music to conduct, from Ride of the Valyries to Duel of the Fates, and there's plenty of challenge once you've grown familiar enough to move onto Hard difficulty, though you may need to pick up your actual controllers for that.”

“Maestro represents VR gaming at its finest - it creates an experience that would be impossible to replicate in any other medium. The attention to detail, polished mechanics, and genuine joy of conducting make Maestro an essential addition to any Quest 3 library. It's the kind of game that reminds us why VR is special, offering an experience that's both accessible and profound, simple to learn but challenging to master.”

“Ok, so how do I sum up Maestro? I think I can do it in a few simple words. Pure, Brilliant, Indulgent Fun. There, that’s it, I had so much fun playing through the different songs and getting to grips with all the hand gestures. It’s firmly in my repeat play VR games! With probably the easiest award I’ve ever had to give, Maestro receives the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.”

“Maestro is brilliant, offering an innovative and immersive conducting experience that’s unlike any other rhythm game that I’ve played. Between its diverse and familiar soundtrack, its impressive on-stage visuals, and its clever and fitting implementation of hand-tracking, it offers an exciting and rewarding experience that will certainly help you appreciate the fine art of conducting an orchestra. Whether you’re a fan of rhythm games, a lover of classical music, or simply someone looking for something fresh to enjoy in virtual reality, Maestro is a must-play. It successfully redefines the genre, turning what might have been a niche concept into an engaging and exciting experience that will leave you waving your hands for more.”

“Maestro is quite approachable for a rhythm title, something I often have trouble saying given rhythm games’ steep difficulty curves, disparate input methods, and pricy entry points thanks to needing custom hardware. On the Quest 3, all you need is your hands (or controllers, if you choose) to immerse yourself in a novel rhythm game setting. The Complete Edition comes with the full musical experience that will keep you playing for hours!”

“Maestro puts the hand tracking of the Meta Quest 3 to the test, and nails it. With song familiarity, unlocks galore, and a simple, yet fun and challenging interface, this is a game you don't want to pass up. Even if you're not a musician, you'll be pleased with the hand tracking by itself, and that's going to get Maestro a lot of roses. Bravo. ”

“Maestro is easily one of the best music titles available on virtual platforms and missing it would be a real shame. Beyond its unique setting, what makes the experience truly unforgettable is the effortless way it draws you into its gameplay loop, both fun and flawlessly executed. Its strengths lie in a solid visual presentation and especially in the excellent hand tracking, which adds that extra spark. If you're a fan of music games, Maestro is a must-have. Skipping it? Now that would be criminal.”
