How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Videoball is a classy and low cost game that is manic fun in multiplayer and an okay grind in single player arcade mode. Don't let the simplistic looks put you off, have some balls and fire this up at your earliest convenience.

An exceptional exercise on design purity, VIDEOBALL is a virtual sport that takes inspiration from the origin of videogames themselves to expand the possibilities laid by classics such as Spacewar!, Pong, Asteroids and more; however, despite its undeniable pedigree and elegance, and its generous content, it somehow lacks some excitement and addictiveness. Remarkable, but still a little short of videogame perfection.

With its distinctively clean retro stylings and deceptively simple set up, Videoball may blindside you with the pace and depth of its gameplay. It's reminiscent of arcade classics, and is easily one of the best multiplayer experiences of the year.

Videoball manages to strip away all the unnecessary elements taking a minimalist approach and leaving an extremely refined end product. Its simplicity allows its game mechanics to be picked up quickly and its visual style to be instantly recognizable.

The final package of VIDEOBALL may be a bit lacking for those expecting a single-player experience, but for everyone looking for a fun local-multiplayer game, you are absolutely in luck!

Rivalries will form and bonds will be tested, but in the end, Videoball does more good than harm and exists as something unlike anything else that you've played.

It might not be the future of eSports, but it is the future of several fun, sweary, elbows-in-each-others-ribs nights with your friends.

Practice is for tryhards, and Videoball’s greatest strength is that it understands the value of isolated, localized competition.

Every piece of Videoball feels crafted for competition, and even when I was getting whipped by the game's AI opponents, it was a joy to play. With the pinpoint control and endless playability of the best arcade sports experiences, the small team at Action Button Entertainment has invented something wonderful and new in Videoball.

Videoball is, in a word, awesome. It's easy to pick up and play but it'll take more than a few goes to master. With four player support on PS4 (more on PC) this could become THE go-to party game. It's basically Pong made for the millennials and I can't get enough of it. I'll say this: I wouldn't be surprised to see Videoball reach the same level of Rocket League in terms of popularity.

Incredibly simple to pick up and play, but with the potential for plenty of tactical approaches, Videoball is a great multiplayer game and I’d love to see it hit the esports scene in a big way.
