How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora feels powerful when it lets you connect with nature as it offers you something unique only the world of Avatar can show. Once you leave the warmth of its natural beauty behind, what you are left with is just another open-world game with an overworked story of saving the world.”

“Despite all the reservations, complaints and finger-pointing, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is not a bad game. It looks and sounds amazing. The movement and arcade combat are done right. Unfortunately, Ubisoft plunged even further into its trap of open worlds, making the game boring and at times even repulsive. Very quickly I began to tire of this production, practically forcing myself to continue wading into the storyline and exploring the world.”

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora held all the cards and, at least from our perspective, squandered them all. This reskinned Far Cry is a mediocrity gallery reflecting the current AAA production stuck in the last decade. The Snowdrop engine does help cover up some visible flaws, but when there's a lack of polished plot, quests, and meaningful gameplay, players will figure it out sooner or later. So, while Frontiers of Pandora may not rank among the worst games of the year, it is definitely one of those games that will soon be forgotten with all the mediocrity.”

“The decision to make another Far Cry game with Avatar IP is very questionable. On the other hand, the game turned out to be very similar to the source: it's a bland adventure with passable story and unbelievable graphics.”

“Frontiers of Pandora is, in essence, just another Far Cry experience, one with breathtaking art direction and a thoughtful portrayal of an alien culture, but a Far Cry experience nonetheless. It’s a tired formula applied to a property that’s capable of showing us much more. This game’s Pandora is a beautiful place to visit, but living there makes for a boring existence.”

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will likely get lost very quickly in the flood of other, much better games that will at least try to win over players in some way. If you weren’t impressed by the content of Starfield, for example, which many players also criticize for its merely average story, then Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will likely be an even greater ordeal for you, as it was for me. The game didn’t impress me at all, and it’s exactly the kind of game I’ll play once and never again. Six out of ten.”

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a technical marvel due to its gorgeous open world with an alluring atmosphere that calls for exploration, but is unfortunately hindered by the “sameness” of Ubisoft open-world games from the past decade. It offers some new elements like wilder parkour sequences and more hunting oriented gameplay, but not even remotely enough to be hailed as something new or innovative.”

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a remarkable adventure, and I will happily return here in the already announced story driven DLCs. It is not the best open world game but it is one of the best movie-to-videogame transfers in history.”

“Even if you are not a big fan of the Avatar property, if you have enjoyed Far Cry in the past and are curious to see how Ubisoft is slowly evolving their tried and true formula, or if you just want a beautiful place to get lost in, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora definitely fits the bill.”

“Just like the franchise it bases its existence on, 'Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora' is the video game equivalent of catching that one popular movie on TNT at 2 pm on a Tuesday. You didn't watch it when it was released in theaters years ago, but you have a free afternoon and want to waste some time.”

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a faithful and welcome addition to the Avatar movie franchise. It takes the established world building and builds upon it with an original quest to provide a way for the player to experience the vibrant yet dangerous world of Pandora first hand. While it does have some room to improve when it comes to late mission and character design, it’s clear that the better parts of Ubisoft’s game catalogue have built Frontiers of Pandora up to what it is. Claiming its traversal and gun play from Far Cry, strategic use of planning and use of technology from Watch Dogs and its stealth and strategy mechanics from Assassin’s Creed.”

“Overall ‘Avatar Frontiers Of Pandora’ was an absolute blast to play. With fluid and enjoyable gameplay and truly gorgeous graphics, what’s there not to love with this game. ‘Ubisoft’ and ‘Massive Entertainment’ have created something truly special and deserves a 10/10.”
