How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 79 | 4 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 96% | 91 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 82 | 6 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 95% | 89 | 1819 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 89.4, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 16,848 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“For $9.99, Mini Metro provides a great deal of content and some decent, relaxing fun. I'm not a huge puzzle game fan for the most part but I did have some relaxing play sessions. If you're looking for something to play on the subway or the plane for that matter, Mini Metro might just be the perfect fit for you.”

“Mini Metro is proof that elegant design can be very beautiful. As the name suggests, in this game you create your own subway. However, it is not a simulator but rather a logical game that is perfect be played on the go thanks to its simple stylization.”

“The Nintendo Switch plays perfectly fine either way, even though Handheld Mode is the way to go. Pointer controls are a fun inclusion though, even though they should've made it easier to find. It is neat that you can play up to four people on the television, but the Mini Metro I like is personal and with me anywhere I go. The developers have done a good job translating the magic to the Nintendo Switch, which was honestly my biggest worry going in.”

“Mini Metro is a minimalist metro‑building puzzle game where players design and expand rail networks across real‑world cities, balancing growing passenger demand with limited resources. Its simple visuals, escalating challenge, and short, satisfying play sessions make it engaging in bursts, even if its straightforward concept doesn’t sustain long marathon sessions.”

“Mini Metro delivers what it promises… which is more than any other metro system... As near to perfect as a minimalistic mass transit simulator can be.”

“Mini Metro was a surprise hit for me when I first played it on computers four years ago, and I was really excited to finally see the game hit a proper console. While the controls aren’t quite as good as I was hoping they’d be, the game itself still remains enjoyable and engrossing, offering a more-than-worthwhile experience for anyone who hasn’t played Mini Metro on other platforms.”

“I don't mind a lack of music as all I can envision right now is something like the soundtrack used in Sim City 3000”

“Mini Metro is nothing like real public transport. Millions of people don't have to use it each day, but they might just want to instead.”

“Mini Metro is a really good game for unwinding, even with the more challenging modes and moments of high stress that pop when a poorly placed station suddenly appears. In a way, it’s a sim-without-the-sim, and a management game about managing very little. The UI is crisp and clean, the gameplay satisfying, and while the game doesn’t really do much to motivate you to keep playing aside from going “hey, beat your high score!”, it’s fun enough that you’re going to fire it up to try and make a longer lasting and more efficient metro line anyways.”

“Mini Metro submerges its formulae to create a space for more organic play. Like a city that leaves its streets to pedestrians, pushing highways underground and elevating trains overhead, the game seeks to avoid the anxious hustle of a traditional simulation by reducing clutter and keeping things at a more intimate, human level.”

“Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about Mini Metro whatsoever. It’s an incredible blend of gorgeous graphics and addictive gameplay, and if you want a great puzzle on your Switch, you owe it to yourself to pick it up.”

“Mini Metro is a minimalist and charming puzzle/simulation game that will keep you busy for hours. Just playing the game to unlock all the cities it has to offer will have you playing for hours as you try to perfect your city planning to establish a growing network of lines that can accommodate the needs of as many commuters possible… until the whole system collapses and you have to start all over again. Be sure to check out Mini Metro on Nintendo Switch!”
