How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Though not without its faults, Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a visually stunning and faithful follow-up that builds on the original with more characters, polished storytelling, and just enough style to keep Demon Slayer fans hooked.”

“In Dragonball-esque fashion, CyberConnect2 and Arc System Works performed a fusion and managed to turn the tides! The majestic production values of Ufotable have been impressively mirrored, as this game delivers a multitude of breathtaking animations and of course, loads of flamboyancy! A solid battle system and plenty of content make this game a significant upgrade to the first. This one is for the fans.”

“The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a treat for fans of the anime, giving us the pedigree experience CyberConnect2 has been delivering for years with all their games and refining what was already good in the first game, although it still has a rather lack of meaningful content”

“Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a textbook example of a sequel that doesn’t reinvent the wheel but makes the ride smoother and more exciting. It builds on what worked in the first game, adds more content, gives fans more characters to play with, and delivers another round of high-energy, anime-faithful action. It’s not perfect, some side content is forgettable, combat depth is limited, and the decision not to fully integrate the first game’s story stings, but when you’re in the middle of a flashy fight, pulling off a perfectly timed tag-team ultimate, those complaints fade fast. If you’re a Demon Slayer fan, this is a no-brainer. If you’re just here for a casual, visually spectacular fighter with an anime twist, you’ll have plenty to enjoy. Just don’t expect it to completely replace the anime or the first game, it’s more of a companion piece than the definitive Demon Slayer experience.”

“Fans of the Demon Slayer anime and manga will definitely want to pick this 3D fighter up, as it recaps the continuing saga of Tanjiro and co. Non-fans can appreciate the colourful graphics and truncated anime plot in the single-player mode, but probably won’t find as much value when compared to your super-fan of the series. At the very least, this cash cow of a title has some merit as it is crafted with love and care courtesy of Cyberconnect 2.”

“All things considered, Hinokami Chronicles 2 definitely stands at the top of its genre, featuring an exceptionally detailed story, stunning visuals, and outstanding voice acting that will leave no fan indifferent. This is undoubtedly a game that has set a new standard for the Demon Slayer franchise, while also solidifying CyberConnect2’s position as the kings of arena fighters for years to come.”

“While I may not be familiar with any of the anime the game is based around, there is no question that its gameplay is gorgeous, and its storylines are utterly bonkers”

“Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a more of the same that will please fans who enjoyed the first game. The story mode is certainly the strong point of this chapter, but I must admit that I would have expected more variety, especially in the exploratory phases which are rather slow and monotonous. The combat system remains solid, striking a good balance between fun and variety. It clearly doesn't aim to be an extremely competitive title, but it still manages to be more entertaining than you'd expect from an arena fighter. A few additional modes to further explore the gameplay wouldn't have hurt.”

“Demon Slayer, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Hinokami Chronicles 2 is an excellent arena fighter game with unparalleled visuals and stays very true to the anime. A 40-player roster makes it interesting to dive into the multiplayer modes, but it does nothing more than that. The story mode exploration is still bland until the actual fights begin, which are perfectly executed. Same game, new characters & story, better fighting, and visuals.”

“By building on the original and adapting some of the best arcs from the manga, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is pretty much a must for fans. As far as arena brawler goes, this is one of the better ones, although we still think combat can be a bit flat and woolly at times. But, with a wealth of single player content and so many characters to choose from, this is a worthy sequel to an already solid game.”

“Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a sequel that improves on almost every aspect of the original game. The combat feels smoother, there's more content to enjoy, and the visuals look great. Although the story mode can feel slow at times and lacks action in some parts, its faithfulness to the anime and the large roster of playable characters make it a highly recommended experience for fans of the series.”
