How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

An unusual mixture of rhythmic cooking sim and turn-based RPG elements that can be satisfying, even if its execution isn’t always quite ideal

Dosa Divas feels like an interesting proof of concept, stretched out into a full game. The ideas and early execution don’t really evolve, instead becoming worn down by the time it’s all said and done. While it doesn’t lack heart and soul, it’s unfortunately missing quite a few ingredients to make it a full course meal.

Dosa Divas starts strong with its creative mix of turn-based combat and cooking mechanics, but the experience loses momentum over time. Repetitive mini-games, limited gameplay variety, and low challenge hurt the overall experience, despite the game’s charming art style and solid story.

Dosa Divas is a game that aesthetically represents a definite step forward for Outerloop Games, but mechanically it needed more attention, or simply time. Unable to distance myself from the culinary metaphors the game itself evokes, Dosa Divas may be a mix of tasty, certified-origin ingredients, but the resulting dish merely satisfies hunger, leaving nothing lasting in the memory and, above all, failing to make us feel any particular pleasure in consuming it, a disappointment to the narrative and art style that were instead guaranteed springboards.

Dosa Divas is a mixture of not just two genres but also a heartfelt attempt at bringing together an adorable yet fun experience of combat and food at the same time. The more I play, the more addictive the game gets. The heartfelt writing with just the right amount of mystery makes the game thoroughly enjoyable, while the combat mechanics themselves are very well executed. Though you may face some bugs and often the grind isn’t all that enjoyable, if you stick to the story, you will have an excellent time.

Outerloop Games’ latest entry weaves a heartfelt narrative that reminds us of the cultural act of cooking. One of the more common ways to show love to our close ones, its family narrative has its heart in the right place. Its tight turn-based system moves along at a natural pace, with its active inputs keeping things dynamic.

Some narrative and battle system decisions mean Dosa Diva doesn’t feel as unique, touching, and exciting as past Outerloop games. Switch 2 version reviewed.

"Dosa Divas is yet another game from Outerloop Games that has a lot of charm, and a lot of heart. The narrative is goofy yet sincere, the map design, setting and art style is eye-catching and new additions to turn-based combat and exploration add a lot to the experience. But sadly, everything feels a little repetitive, clunky and half-baked in execution. It, much like it's predecessor Thirsty Suitors, is a flawed gem. So mileage may vary, but it could just be a tasty morsel worth nibbling on."

Dosa Divas is a game that values emotions and imagination above all else. Story and gameplay are mixed in a way that makes it mesmerizing. It's mostly about national identity and feelings.

Filled with striking vibes, the entire adventure melts in your mouth and goes down well, lingering within your brain like that one childhood dish you just can’t get enough of. There’s good eatin’ here, folks.

Dosa Divas isn't without some ingredients missing to create a robust RPG, but it's a well-seasoned narrative adventure that's exciting your senses. The story and characters are heartfelt and impressively written, the combat system although not expansive is fun to engage with; and the cooking minigames, whilst not perfect, are an excellent detour to round out the gameplay loop.

Overall, however, this is a pleasant casual RPG with turn-based combat whose more compact scope may appeal to genre newcomers or players who simply do not have time for enormous games.
