How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Neon Inferno is an incredibly polished experience, but it is ultimately quite a short one. If you’re quick to learn its patterns, the game can be completed in under two hours. That brevity feels deliberate. The game tells a full, complete story without padding itself too much or overstaying its welcome (frustrating chase sequences aside). It trades length for momentum and clarity. Coupled with the gorgeous visuals, Neon Inferno is a flame that burns brightly and fades quickly. Its layered combat, relentless pacing, and unapologetic spectacle make every clean run feel earned.”

“Neon Inferno looks absolutely gorgeous, and it's definitely not something you should skip. It also scores extra points for its solid soundtrack - the music really sets the right tone. Another nice touch is the non-linear structure, with branching paths through level selection. Even though the game doesn't bring anything fundamentally new to the somewhat stagnant genre, Zenovia Interactive has delivered a tightly packed dose of fun that fans of this style will really appreciate.”

“Zenovia Interactive's title features original run-and-gun gameplay with platforming and gallery shooter mechanics, set in a visually stunning cyberpunk-noir New York. It's a respectful and enthusiastic reimagining of classic genres, with a personality all its own and a level of polish that few games achieve.”

“Neon Inferno is a game for anyone who has a soft spot for old-school arcade action and wants to be reminded of the energy and design purity that classic pixel-art shooters are packed with. If you’re drawn to the dynamics of ’90s run-and-gun titles but also wish they had an “easy” mode, Neon Inferno’s style and pace will be right up your alley. And you’ll likely find yourself coming back to it again and again even after you’ve beaten it.”

“Neon Inferno is certainly a title that fully reflects the legacy of the run ‘n gun of the late ’80s and early ’90s. Plus he has a strong personality and mood. In terms of gameplay the game didn’t do anything new, but it reworks numerous elements creating an interesting and truly satisfying gameplay. The action, the frenzy and the extrication from the bullets with dodges and deviations make the player feel the strength of the characters he controls. The research and care in creating the settings with the pixel art style are truly remarkable. The audio section itself is in line with the arcades of that era with music and songs always on point and spot on. A critical issue may be the brevity of the title. In fact, Neon Inferno bases its replayability on the concept of repeating missions to improve your score. All with an increase in difficulty to the extreme of “one shot one kill”. Although I don’t feel like penalizing the development team’s vision too much, I must tell you that this may be a critical issue for some. For anyone who doesn’t think it’s a big mistake, will find a valid title. Made with awareness, care and respect for the genre.”

“Neon Inferno pulls from old-school ideas, splashes them with an ’80s color palette and CRT flair, then tops it all off with a dose of bullet-time spice served at a pace that keeps you chasing “just one more run.” And just when you think you’re done, the game winks and whispers: “Come on, one more round - you know you want to.””
