How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“For all its visual appeal, however, Far Cry 4 remains a shallow experience. It has loads of things in it, but having a lot of things is not the same thing as having depth.”

“For those desiring a more focused approach to gameplay, Far Cry 4 offers a lengthy campaign with over 40 missions.”

“Far Cry 4 is an excellent game. Smaller or bigger changes since the previous game create an image of a more dynamic and more expertly crafted product. We get great shooting mechanic, tons of weapons, decent AI and a cool co-op mode in the campaign. I wish snowy peaks were more prominent in the game and the storyline was as good as everything else. But if you put that aside, you get an almost perfect open world game.”

“Far Cry 4 takes its place as one of the most enjoyable games of the year. Ubisoft Montreal repeats its formula in order to offer a game that is "more and better" than the last one. Co-op mode is an absolute success, and the change in the competitive mode make it different than others offering similar features. ”

“Far Cry 4, for all the action it includes, for all the things it lets you do, proves woefully unengaged.”

“Far Cry 4 may have installed a despot, but it's still the undisputed king of the open-world shooter.”

“Far Cry 4 may just be more of the same from Far Cry 3, but, in the best possible way. Ubisoft took what was great about the third game, and improved it in almost every way, making this one of the most refreshing, fun and addictive open-world titles available. With solid fundamental mechanics, a superb open gameworld, multiplayer to come back for, and some fantastic DLC, this psychotic voyage through a deadly paradise is worth setting a course for.”

“Far Cry 4 is a good game, a beautiful open world, satisfying shooter mechanics, and Pagan Min as one of gaming's most charismatic villains. But it's also a safe game that never quite escapes the shadow of Far Cry 3.”

“It's Far Cry 3 again, for people who don't want to play Far Cry 3 again. Far Cry 4 doesn't innovate much and so there are a fair few I've-Done-This-Before moments, but it's still just as well-crafted and just as much fun.”

“While Far Cry 4 doesn't feel like a major upgrade over its predecessor, except on the graphical front, the series still manages to retain its crown as the finest open world first-person shooter. The introduction of player choice to the narrative is great, but the lack of an interesting story makes this addition feel like a step forward followed by a step back. It's fortunate, then, that the game's negatives are eclipsed by its sublime sandbox gameplay.”

“A worthy purchase certainly, but only if you're prepared to accept Far Cry 3.5 rather than Far Cry 4.”

“Far Cry 4 is a great game that just feels like a lot more of the same. Granted as I said earlier, it has been just long enough since the last one to drag me right back into the mix. I hope they take note though and really go outside the box for the next game. Again feel free to use my idea and make it an island full of dinosaurs, then I will completely forgive the rest of the mechanics feeling like more of the same.”
