How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Agents of Mayhem is a passably amusing game shackled forever to the fact it's less than its peers in every single way.”

“Agents of Mayhem clearly lacks a cooperative story mode and more varied missions that could make the game more fun. So, it's left to pull itself out of the secondary marshes thanks to well-designed characters, humorous dialogues and a pretty visuals.”

“You'll definitely want to return to Agents of Mayhem again and again. Games' shortcomings will become irrelevant as soon as you start a new mission, pick your favorite agents from the diverse roster and have a lot of fun.”

“It's bewildering how so much of Volition's Agents of Mayhem feels like a show of conformity.”

“All in all, Agents of Mayhem is a solid effort. Fantastic heroes, ridiculous satire, and bombastic action make it a game you should check out even if the final product isn't as polished as it could be.”

“Agents of Mayhem utilizes a cool idea of steering a trio of agents, has cool cartoon graphics and proper Saints Row humor. Unfortunately the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired, there’s too much repetitiveness. Joy turns into boredom really quick.”

“As a spin-off and follow-up to Saints Row 4, Agents of Mayhem is an imperfect start that wields enormous potential. The agent-switch mechanism is so effective in encouraging player strategy that I'm not willing to write it off yet. But if there's anything to learn from Volition's past, it's that the pressure to reinvent and outdo itself is still very much on, and even more so now with Agents of Mayhem's future.”

“Agents Of Mayhem is a highly entertaining, open world third person action game. It’s world and character design provide a unique and interesting take on the genre and combined with the animated cutscenes make for an overall enjoyable gameplay experience. It is let down by it’s repetitive mission structure and lack of online modes, but would still recommend it to any fans of Saints Row or anyone looking to experience a quirky take on the third person shooter genre.”

“At its worst, Agents of Mayhem is an extremely watered down Crackdown and at its best it's a moderately watered down Saints Row experience. The game's positives just aren't enough to make up for the rest of the game's shortcomings.(...) With so many better alternatives out there, some of them even made by Volition themselves already, there just isn't much of a reason to choose Agents of Mayhem.”

“Agents of Mayhem is an uninteresting experience that has been offered in far better ways throughout the history of open-world shooters. That's not to say that it's bad - in fact, for a mediocre game, it can certainly be a fun distraction for a couple of hours. Unfortunately, its potential was thrown from a window, and what we got here is a repetitive shoot-fest that's enjoyable only when there isn't something better to play.”

“Agents of Mayhem is one of the most entertaining open world shooters of this generation thanks to its fast paced combat and innovative team-up system. Sadly, Volition‘s latest is far from perfect, as poor vehicle handling, annoying performance issues and a few nasty bugs conspire to drag down the overall experience.”

“Few would consider the combat in the various Saints Row games particularly memorable, so it's surprising to discover that the frantic, fast paced battles and excellent agent switching gameplay end up being the true heroes of Agents of Mayhem. While it's disappointing that the open world feels surplus to requirements at times, it's the 80s cartoon atmosphere and absorbing upgrade system that also help ensure that this is more than just a Saints Row spin-off.”
