How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Black Jacket successfully transforms blackjack into a deep and replayable roguelike experience, thanks to an intriguing system that never gets boring. The variety of builds, the well-designed progression, and the successful atmosphere make it a solid title that stands out in the genre, albeit with some limitations related to balance and the random element. Overall, it’s a project that definitely deserves attention, and we recommend it to both fans of the genre and fans of risk.

Black Jacket is a stylish and atmospheric roguelike card game that transforms blackjack into something more strategic and devilishly appealing. Its core idea works well at first, but limited build variety, repetitive encounters, unclear AI behavior, and a lack of long-term depth keep it from fully delivering on its promising concept.

Overall, Black Jacket takes a well known game and interweaves a collection of interesting mechanics that add considerable depth, turning a simple game of chance into a complex game of strategy, risk and reward. Hidden up its sleeve is a wonderfully told story of betrayal and redemption that Mi’pu’mi Games have expertly stashed behind the games roguelike progression, making it almost impossible to put down, that is, until a hard crash forces you to. Brimming with moody hand drawn artwork and showcasing excellent vocal performances, Black Jacket is steeped in mystery from start to finish, and an absolute must-play for card game fans, I just hope that all the kinks get worked out soon.

As we seemingly move into a space where all forms of gambling are mixed up with roguelike concepts, this shows unique promise but doesn’t hit the same playability highs as its competition

It is enjoyable, incredibly fun to mess around with its different build ideas and styles, and in my opinion, for a game like this, very good on the eyes for longer play sessions. Black Jacket feels to me like a game that you could easily get stuck in a “Just one more run” cycle.

Black Jacket is one of the more fascinating card-based roguelikes to come out recently. The dark atmosphere, strategic gameplay, satisfying progression systems, and endless experimentation make it very difficult to stop playing once a run starts.

Black Jacket blends roguelite deckbuilding mechanics inspired by well-known blackjack, with a strong narrative focus, creating a loop that feels both strategic and story-driven rather than purely mechanical. While its systems are familiar within the genre, the way it ties progression and storytelling together gives it a unique identity and keeps the experience engaging throughout the gameplay.

I don’t know that it’ll make anyone forget about Balatro or anything, but I’d still say that if you’re fond of that game and you want something similar (but not too similar), then Black Jacket is definitely worth investigating.

Black Jacket is rather brutal when you're first dealt in, but once you understand its clever systems you'll never want it to end.
