How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“This marks our third visit to the blocky world of DC Comics heroes. Once again, we took on the roles of Batman and Robin, and with the help of the Justice League and the villainous Legion of Doom, we faced the greatest threat this world has ever encountered. However, even this installment isn’t without its flaws, whether technical or narrative. At its core, LEGO Batman 3 is an ambitious creation that captivates with its comic-book atmosphere, but its issues may deter potential players and fans.”

“Lego Batman 3 may not be the greatest adventure, or even the greatest LEGO adventure, on the Wii U, but it's certainly still well worth a look for series fans. Repetitive gameplay elements and some occasionally awkward controls bring down the Dark Knight's latest, and the lack of an explorable open world feels like a step back from its predecessor, but fun writing, excellent co-op, and lots of LEGO charm are more than enough to seal the deal for DC devotees.”

“It's definitely a shame TT Games ditched the open world city design, so consequently vehicles are worthless, but the large Super Mario Galaxy-style planets you can visit and the sheer mind-boggling amount of content softens the blow. I had a lot of fun playing it, I'll probably spend another 30 hours getting 100% everything, and… wait, did Kevin Smith just reference Tim Burton's failed Superman Lives project? BEST GAME EVER BUY IT NOW.”

“The love poured into these games is obvious, but I can't shake the nagging feeling of the copy/paste mentality each iteration delivers. It also doesn't help that they shove out three of them a year. “With all of its improvements, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is easily the best LEGO Batman game, but it doesn't quite take the crown for best overall LEGO game. LEGO: The Hobbit is still more impressive as an overall experience, as the sprawling open world seamlessly integrated the story and side-quests in a way that Beyond Gotham can't match. However, Beyond Gotham is most like LEGO Marvel Super Heroes in terms of overall experience, and that's not bad company.”

“Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is an enjoyable Lego game let down by the series' own formulaic design. The missions are enjoyable but never allow the game to develop in exciting ways, the restrictive hub worlds are also an issue although the end game content makes up for this. The amount of replay value the game offers is great but it's a shame that it gets introduced so late. The charming and often times hilarious story would be my major recommendation to play through Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. It demonstrates Traveller's Tales' ability at writing these characters in fun and engaging ways and I wouldn't be opposed to playing through another sequel to experience another back and forth between Batman and Robin.”
