How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“A heartfelt voyage of grief, grace, and the open seas unravels amidst puzzles and a captivating narrative. ”

“WILL: Follow The Light is a debut release that earns real respect for what it achieves and honest disappointment for what it doesn’t complete. The opening hours and the sailing sections represent a genuinely promising vision from a team that clearly knows what it wants to make. The back half of the game, with its puzzle missteps and narrative gaps, suggests the resources ran out before the vision did. At $24.99 for a 5-6 hour experience with photorealistic arctic visuals, strong voice acting, a clean technical release, and a story that, despite its rough edges, has something real to say about fathers and sons, WILL is worth your time if this is your genre. It’s not Firewatch. But it’s a worthwhile first step from a studio worth following.”

“WILL: Follow the Light’s ambitious mix of sailing, character drama and puzzle-based adventuring shows plenty of promise but often results in choppy pacing and rough implementation. ”

“WILL: Follow The Light is yet another walking simulator that offers an interesting mechanic of controlling a yacht and a dog sled. However, the authors completely failed in terms of the story and world exploration.”

“A strikingly moody adventure that knows exactly what it wants to feel like, but never fully works as either a game or a story in the way it needs to.”

“Will Follow The Light is a strong debut from TomorrowHead Studio. It delivers a deeply emotional story, engaging gameplay mechanics, and stunning visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5. While it does have flaws in voice acting, performance polish, and some visual inconsistencies, it remains a standout indie experience that is well worth playing.”

“WILL: Follow the Light has a genuinely compelling core: the loneliness of open water, lighthouse routines, and a father's grief searching for his missing family. When it leans into its sailing mechanics and atmospheric coastal design, it gets close to something special. But uneven pacing, stiff controls, and a town full of lifeless interactions keep pulling you away from the emotional story it clearly wants to tell. There's a better game hidden beneath the surface. It just doesn't stay there long enough to matter.”

“When all is said and done, WILL: Follow The Light shines in its particular moments of calmness while sailing through the icy waters of the north. Its pitch-perfect soundtrack, evoking Max Richter’s On The Nature of Daylight, leaves a tinge of melancholy. The story itself does not shy away from the inevitability of death.”

“Will: Follow the Light is a slow, contemplative experience focused on emotional storytelling and realistic navigation systems. It’s a mix of sailing mechanics, environmental puzzles, and explorative gameplay woven into a story of family, loss, and introspection. Meanwhile, pacing issues, inconsistent puzzle clarity, and uneven character delivery hurt overall buy-in.”

“ Will: Follow the Light had a compelling premise that could have set it apart from the sea of walking simulators. In fact, the plot framework remains intriguing, but the execution falls short due to lackluster voice acting that lacks both emphasis and intent, failing to convey the urgency of the situation in which our protagonist finds himself. The puzzles also fail to engage, and when you’re not using a mouse and keyboard, they’re hampered by an ineffective control scheme. Will: Follow the Light remains a personal project by a small team grappling with an intriguing production, but it should be viewed as a starting point from which to build upon for Tomorrow Head’s future works.”

“WILL: Follow the Light offers a few glimmers of promise amidst its fog of missed potential, but they are too few and far between to recommend. Stiff delivery, rough writing and uneven puzzles all would have been better served by being thrown overboard so WILL could focus on its atmospheric sailing strengths. Instead, WILL is better left adrift at sea with only its lost promise to keep it company.”

“WILL: Follow The Light is an ambitious game that had all the makings of an indie gem. However, its excellent yacht-sailing simulation and breathtaking wilderness visuals are dragged down by an underdeveloped story, frustratingly repetitive puzzles, poor voice acting, technical issues, and unattractive character models.”
