How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | 65 | 6 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 76% | 71 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 68 | 4 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 82% | 75 | 18 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Gives you all the power in the Star Wars universe, but it takes away your opposable thumbs in the process. [Jan 2010, p.85]”

“If you're planning on picking up Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Ultimate Sith Edition, keep in mind that the only brand-spanking-new addition is the inclusion of the Hoth level, and that alone isn't worth spending $40. If you haven't played the game before and you've been waiting for a PC release, then it's probably going to be worth checking out, but keep in mind that you're not really gaining much over the console release with this port.”

“A slapdash porting job turns the Force into a farce in this Star Wars action game.”

“The gameplay doesn't really satisfy me, but what's worse are the technical issues. Still, the game has its moments and can be great fun because of the story and the force powers.”

“Mediocre. [Jan 2010, p.80]”

“Strict linearity kills all fun in this yet-another-untold-story from Star Wars universe. Nice physics features soon become boring and Kratos can sleep at his throne undisturbed. [Issue#186]”

“The Ultimate Sith Edition additions are nice, but nothing special. In fact, the same can be said about Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as a whole.”

“It doesn't fix or change anything in the original game - it just gives you a few more levels and some new skins. If you don't already have the game, give it a look. If you do, you might just want to go the DLC route.”

“More than a year after the console versions, the Ultimate Sith Edition arrives for PC. The game suffers from problems with controls and balance and because it’s a quite linear game. But it’s Star Wars, nicely presented, with great atmosphere and new missions. And that’s more important in this case.”

“A series of spectacularly presented levels. [Feb 2010, p.68]”

“The force was unleashed on this game alright, it just happened to be the dark side of the force. The controls seemed to have been programmed by Darth Vader himself.”

“Given the emphasis on storytelling and single-player action, The Force Unleashed is tragically flawed execution of a great concept.”
