How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 85% | 79 | 27 |

“Cossacks 3 is definitely not for everyone, and it certainly doesn't fit the modern concept of RTS and strategy games. However, if you're looking for laid-back gameplay, massive battles involving thousands of units, or if you're a die-hard fan, you'll enjoy the game and be willing to overlook some of its shortcomings.”

“Poor AI and terribly structured campaign makes us believe that we would be better off only with fond memories of previous Cossacks titles.”

“There’s an inescapable feeling that in a sea of retro titles and remakes the team that made this game felt compelled to offer such an experience to new players, while drawing on the nostalgic memories of the veterans. Compared to what today’s RTS games have to offer, especially when it comes to polish and production, Cossacks 3 feel at the level of browser-based strategy games.”

“Cossacks 3 is a faithful remake of the original game, and strategy fans looking for an old school RTS will enjoy it enormously. Sadly, the game’s AI isn’t as good as one would expect, and massive battles lead to performance issues, even on systems that exceed the game’s recommended system requirements.”

“Majestic foundation quickly devolves into a human meat grinder, and not in a good way”

“Cossacks 3 won't convince any new players about merits of RTS games, but everyone else will be greatly entertained. Doubly so if you're a fan of the series.”

“Cossacks 3 is a remake that captures the essence of the original Cossacks but is dragged down by a handful of issues. At the end of the day, Cossacks 3 captures the charm of the original and will definitely tug at some nostalgia strings. If the issues present in this build transfer over to the full release, the gameplay experience will be marred at times.”

“A remake that proves that old games can still be fun even with some minor hiccups due its age. Fun, cheap and beautiful RTS on the likes of Age of Empires.”

“Straightforward, simple, but slick and solid. Cossacks is comfort food, but it feels sufficiently of today despite its cheerfully throwback heart. I had a good time, and most of all I realised that I’m more than ready for this once so staid of genres to come back in earnest.”
