How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Fortified is a tower defence/third person shooter which draws on the imagery and tropes of 1950s pulp fiction. The emphasis is on multiplayer but it can be enjoyed alone if you have the patience to get through some of the more severe difficulty spikes. The 50s theme is well implemented in many areas and the gameplay is challenging, while characters remain different enough to warrant multiple playthroughs. If you enjoy this genre, Fortified is worthy of your time and you should consider dropping it into your multiplayer gaming rotation.”

“Fortified is an okay action/tower defense hybrid with neato style but not much depth”

“The game play is not going to blow anyone away, but it was interesting enough to keep me entertained for long enough to get my money's worth out of it.”

“In the end, Fortified is a decent tower defense game. The classes add some variety, and the shooting is fine, but the tower defense portion could use more work. It plays well with others, but there isn't much balance available for the solo player, especially since XP progression can become a grind. Coupled with an average presentation, it's decent fun with buddies but not something worth pursuing if you're looking to play solo.”

“Fortified marries multiple different genres while maintaining consistent waves of challenging fun in a cohesive experience. The game is best when played as part of a team, although the omission of split-screen co-op is a disappointment, and the lack of a health bar is a bit frustrating.”

“Fortified has an impressive pulp sci-fi pedigree and speedy co-op play, but the blending of shoot-em-up and tower defense gameplay stumbles.”

“While the style does draw you in, Fortified has a hard time keeping players invested, and its barebones multiplayer options really hamper what could have been a great online co-op choice for fans of tower defense and shooters.”

“Although it can often be too frustrating for its own good, Fortified has a lot going for it, and will appeal to those who like to work together with their friends. If you're a solo gamer, however, you'll want to pass on this one, because it's just not built to be the lone wolf-accepting title that it purports to be.”

“At the end of the day, the game is good. Sometimes the gameplay feels a little shallow and may even you feel like more could be added to the experience. This is easily overlooked, however, when you play with others. Fortified is worth buying if you enjoy Tower Defense style games.”

“What Fortified lacks in originality it certainly makes up for in style and execution”

“For what Fortified offers, you could do a hell of a lot worse with fun factor on the marketplace. This is a game that I know I will find myself going back to and I suspect I won't be the only one with that thought. In fact, I can hear it calling to me right now. Excuse me, I have to go save the world. Or, in my case, try to save the world and end up failing miserably.”

“Every facet of Fortified is riddled with charisma, from the witty one liners at the start of rounds to it's unique take on the tower defence genre.”
