How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 91.4, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 2,793 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

The game is relatively easy, and even with the additional challenges that pop up in each round, most will have no problem breezing through the game. Still, the experience is fun while it lasts.

A fun game that could have been a very good one had there been multiplayer modes, an extra difficulty level and more challenge.

An impressively fun merger of colorful undersea graphics and gameplay standards from the arcade's yesteryears make this one-player treat a name that's hard to stop nibbling on. [Jun 2006, p.62]

Microsoft's Live Arcade offerings are generally well worth the asking price, but Feeding Frenzy, sadly, isn't one of them.

Eat your heart out in this undersea action game, in which you guide a fish around as it swallows up anything smaller. Fun, simple gameplay makes this one a fine if brief diversion.

Feeding Frenzy is an easy going and stress free game that is perfect for wasting some time.

With such simplistic mechanics, meager challenge and lack of game modes, it's difficult to recommend spending your Microsoft Points on this one. It's got a sense of humor for sure, but in the face of many more robust and engaging XBLA titles, Feeding Frenzy falls short.

It's a hard one to call; the childlike simplicity and design will be gobbled up by a lot of people, but this reviewer isn't one of them and I know my editor isn't either!

As full as the ocean can be, this ocean is a little shallow - it’s more like a tide pool. The gameplay is there for the most part, but it’s just a little too generic and mundane to excite most people.

Overall, FF is a nice little diversion that is fun to play in little 10 to 15 minute spurts. The only way I can recommend Feeding Frenzy for its $10 asking price is if you really like these addictive little gobble fests.

A rare breed of game that anyone can pick up and play. [Issue#6, p.120]

The action gets fast and frantic, and that's what keeps you interested and engrossed.
