How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Anima: Gate of Memories I & II Remaster is a huge mess. With an uninteresting narrative and characters, the game completely fails to hold the player's attention and interest throughout the entire journey.”

“Anima: Gate of Memories I&II is an attempt to revive a franchise that wasn’t well received at the time, but became some sort of cult classic, likely thanks to its fanbase. I have to say that I understand why both of these outcomes occurred, as it is a game with a very interesting world and story, charismatic characters and strong art direction and soundtrack. However, it still suffers from clunky controls, overwhelming bosses and unbalanced gameplay at times, despite this being a re-release.”

“Anima: Gate of Memories I&II Remaster is an experience that navigates the line between charm and flaw, a narrative woven with diverse archetypes, gameplay marked by both strengths and weaknesses, and audiovisual elements that are commendable overall, though not without imperfections. This collection resonates with an audience willing to overlook technical and design shortcomings in exchange for its rich narrative depth and immersive fantasy world, a journey worth the patience.”

“Anima Gate of Memories: I&II Remaster brings the graphics a lot more up to date compared to the 2018 release." The character models, backgrounds, and lighting have all been improved, and outdoor locations, such as the Great Plains, appear bright and appealing.”

“Anima: Gate of Memories is decent, and I did enjoy my time with it overall. But the repetitive combat and clunky mechanics hold it back from being truly fun. I do think though that most people who decide to pick it up will enjoy it especially for the current price. The story is interesting, the world is varied, the graphics overhaul is well done, but with the remaster you aren’t getting much new content just a collection with a face lift.”

“Anima Gate of Memories: I & II Remaster not only brings new life to a cult game, but it will also introduce you to a new TTRPG world.”

“Anima: Gate of Memories I & II Remastered is a fun callback to the adventure games of days gone by. Players can easily immerse themselves in its unique, dark world filled with mysteries, but it is the exploration that will keep them coming back for more.”

“Anima Gate of Memories I&II Remaster is a solid remaster of a game that may have flown under the radar for many when it was originally released in 2016 and 2018. It delivers on what it sets out to do, featuring decent gameplay, an excellent soundtrack, strong art direction, and an interesting level design, though there’s still room for improvement.”
