How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 75 | 24 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 76% | 71 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 73% | 69 | 67 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Train Sim World 6 is the best and worst of its kind. It's a detailed, engaging simulation wrapped in a frustrating, buggy, and cynically-marketed package. All aboard! But be warned: this train is haunted, the tracks are bumpy, and the company running it doesn't seem to care if you enjoy the ride, only that you've paid for your ticket., ColdMoon”

“When you consider how far Train Sim World 6 has come since its original introduction, it's staggering. But compared directly to its predecessor, this new version doesn't change a lot.The new Riviera route is breath-taking, and we really appreciate the addition of passenger announcements and the random events that can impede your journey. But if you're not immediately attracted to any of the new lines, we'd recommend you focus on the free Starter Pack and wait for some of the upcoming expansions, which will include all-new countries like Japan, Portugal, and Czech Republic.”

“With Train Sim World 6, Dovetail Games delivers a consistent further development of its well-known train simulation. The new route packs offer plenty of variety and a successful mix of long-distance, local, and freight transport in the USA, Great Britain, and Germany. The improved atmosphere is particularly noticeable, benefiting from the new train announcements and the noticeably more sophisticated sound system. In terms of gameplay, much remains the same, but is complemented by useful small features such as random disruptions and new locomotive types. Technically, however, there are some downsides: performance issues, bugs, and enormous memory requirements cloud the overall picture. But if you enjoy the new routes, it's still worth getting. And for those who can't quite make up their minds, it might be worth taking a look at the training center.”

“The most realistic malfunctions and random events in the series bring the railway world to life. Railway fans will definitely not be disappointed. There are only occasional FPS drops and minor glitches.”

“Train Sim World 6 embodies evolution more than revolution. Dovetail Games has layered meaningful features onto its established foundation: dynamic events, real voice announcements, and expanded routes that span three continents. The game does a great job of recreating the unpredictable rhythms of real trains, using missed signals, late arrivals, and sudden restrictions to make stories.”

“While Train Sim World 6 is technically sold as a new game, the same way most sports games are, it’s more of an update. After playing the most recent Madden though, it’s clear how much more love and effort is put into Train Sim World each year to bring quality improvements from every aspect, making this update heavily recommended.”

“Train Sim World 6 may not lay new rails, but it keeps the journey running smoothly. The new random events and station announcements deepen immersion, while the visuals and audio remain among the best in class. Returning players gain the most from their existing content, but newcomers like me face a bare-bones experience that feels restrictive without extra investment. Dovetail Games shows that familiarity can still deliver a strong experience when executed well, but based on my time with the game, I have to award it the Thumb Culture Silver Award.”

“In Train Sim World 6 I liked the new random events, even though after a while I saw the same things appearing, and the new tracks and trains are always appreciated. But I am looking forward to seeing what the next entry will, hopefully truly pushing the franchise forward in a more significant way.”

“Experience in great detail what driving a train feels like, but don't come here for anything more or you might be disappointed.”
