“The Blood of Dawnwalker has a familiar DNA, yet manages to carve out a distinct identity as an RPG. Its time-based system forces players to carefully consider their next move, giving greater weight to every decision they make. Strong writing, engaging combat, and rewarding exploration showcase the expertise its developers have refined over the years, resulting in a compelling and confidently crafted role-playing experience. ”

“The Blood of Dawnwalker is an ambitious RPG that manages to step out of The Witcher 3’s shadow thanks to its clever use of time, meaningful choices, and the duality between human and vampire. On PS5, Quality Mode delivers impressive visuals while maintaining a solid 30 FPS, backed by excellent audio and a narrative structure where choices and their consequences genuinely matter. ”

“According to Rebel Wolves, The Blood of Dawnwalker is just the first instalment in a planned series. And honestly, that's what it feels like: a starting point. Fans of vampire fiction or choice-driven RPGs should still gel with Dawnwalker based on the strength of its world building, characters, and deliciously dark tones. But you'll need to stomach some of the most serviceable, yet frustratingly stunted gameplay I've encountered in quite some time.”

“In a month packed with big-name releases, The Blood of Dawnwalker might be one of the best games of the bunch. It's a well-crafted adventure with an engaging story, an enjoyable world, interesting powers and a genuinely compelling approach to player choice. The time limit gives every decision weight. The open-ended storytelling makes exploration meaningful. The day/night system gives Coen two distinct ways to interact with the world. Most importantly, the game trusts you to make choices without constantly telling you whether you've made the "right" one.”

“The Blood of Dawnwalker is both what was expected and what was feared: an RPG anchored in familiar structural mechanics that attempts to break new ground with a couple of fresh design ideas. The signature style of Rebel Wolves, a team largely hailing from CD Projekt Red, is most evident in the writing; the world-building, lore, and plot are compelling and satisfying, keeping players glued to their controllers for hours. Centered on Coen, the game features a "sandbox" spirit and a 30-day mechanic, two gambles that pay off in terms of replayability and a sense of consequence, even if the promised freedom is only partially realized. The result is an enjoyable debut that is magnetic at times, yet suffers from the flaws typical of a first outing. ”

“The Blood of Dawnwalker is a flawed game, but the heart at the centre of it is strong. Rebel Wolves certainly has work to do in this post-release period with balance, performance, and quality-of-life updates, but once this work is done, I feel this will be the first entry in what becomes a beloved saga. For all its faults, The Blood of Dawnwalker has sold me on its world and characters, and I am eager to take up my sword as Coen in the future.”

“A stellar opening bite from Rebel Wolves, The Blood of Dawnwalker demonstrates it can claw and battle with the toughest of the vrakhir. While it's not quite at the level of the very best in the genre, it delivers a superb open world adventure, filled with intrigue and compelling combat. Give it enough time to feed and this Dawnwalker could grow into a titan, and I can't wait to see what blood feast will come next.”

“The Blood of Dawnwalker is one of the most impressive games I’ve played this generation. The sprawling world and multifaceted story are wonders to behold, while the combat walks the perfect line between complexity and accessibility. Though there is a little bit of open-world jank to contend with, you’d be missing out by choosing not to play this game, as it may already be the best release in an extremely competitive September. ”

“Overall, The Blood of Dawnwalker is an incredibly ambitious, deeply interesting first game from Rebel Wolves. Not every good idea lands and not every envelope is pushed as far as it could be, but the potential of the game is vast, and there’s a huge amount to lean into and love. And it’s all bolstered by excellent writing that makes for one of the deepest and most interesting game worlds I’ve run across in some time. The Blood of Dawnwalker is the kind of RPG that feels great to get lost in, that digs into your mind and stays there, and which is worth scouring and savoring.”

“The Blood of Dawnwalker is excellent, if not quite successful in everything it tries. It's fun to teleport around in a cloud of smoke and bats or walk on ceilings, but the story is also fantastic. It's probably even darker and grimmer than you're expecting, and it gripped me throughout and was complimented by equally fascinating side quest stories that I had to choose between. If you like RPGs, vampires, or great stories, you won't want to miss The Blood of Dawnwalker. ”

“A spirited and open-ended action role-player that blends vampire lore with authentic European history, while introducing an impressive new swordplay and magic-based combat system.”
