How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

A very pleasant and generally chill mix of using various tools to clean areas with some pretty light puzzle elements to boot

I don’t like cleaning IRL, but it’s so much fun in the game, and I was constantly going back to old levels to see how newly acquired tools were incorporated. It will take you about two hours to beat, but you won’t want to put it down until it’s all done. $15 is a solid price, and you’ll love it if you enjoy games like PowerWash Simulator.

I found Cleaning Up! to be quite a fun little adventure, despite its short length. Cleaning up trash and dirt is very satisfying and easy to do, and it’s done differently from other cleaning games, which makes it easy for me to recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing time.

Cleaning Up! is a game I think that will really depend on what you want out of it. If you (like me) have already played dozens and dozens of hours of games like Powerwash Simulator, this is another game in the genre and I liked its attempts to distinguish itself with puzzles and fun costumes. But if you haven't played games in this genre, I'd probably tell you to try something else, because the controls and bugs don't leave a great impression.

Cleaning Up! is a great cleaning simulation, and I really enjoyed my time vacuuming and sweeping around the delightful and varied dioramas.

Overall, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Cleaning Up! will be the first game I turn to when I need to destress or take my mind off of things. The game knows that it’s a quick and charming game that doesn’t require much brainpower, and it takes full advantage of that. Whether you’re comfortable in bed or playing something on the bus, Cleaning Up! is an excellent way to pass the time. While Cleaning Up! doesn’t do anything new, it polishes everything it takes from games of the same genre to deliver something cozy and addictive. Because of this, I give the game the Thumb Culture Gold Award!

Cleaning Up! is a solid casual game that owns the vibes it brings to the table. The visuals are cute, the sounds are punchy, and controlling your little worker gives off all the Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley vibes. It can be a good way to unwind from your actual cleaning. You won’t find a ton of depth or complication, but you’ll get just enough of this to make it worth the gig.
