How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 1 |

“Old School Musical is a lot of fun. It's fast-paced, unique, and upbeat. It's a simple game that requires a lot of attention and it's a game I'll pick up and play again for sure.”

“Old School Musical wear it's inspirations on its sleeves, but manages to find its own path. There's a lot to do beyond the main story, and with different difficulty modes (which you can change at the start of each level) there's a lot of game to see here. While it isn't without its faults, Old School Musical is absurdly fun, and worthy of a place in any Switch owners library who fancies themselves a fan of music.”

“Steady rhythm gameplay doesn’t hide the fact that I’d rather play the original songs and not the modern throwbacks.”

“Old School Musical‘s laser-like focus on delivering a remix of the classic titles of yore with modern rhythm gameplay is a real delight. Don’t hesitate to add it to your collection.”

“Old School Musical is worth checking out for rhythm fans, especially those who adore chiptune music. The tracks are plentiful, especially once you conquer the second storyline, and each tune rocks. The controls are easy enough to master that anyone can jump in, and while the story can be all over the place in terms of tone, it remains satisfying once you beat the game. So long as you stay away from co-op, you'll have a good time with Old School Musical.”

“Old School Musical says a lot in its title - it's a music and rhythm game that's full of old school gaming references. While it's difficult to understand why the game did not secure a licence to feature the actual songs from the retro games it so openly worships, Old School Musical is still a fun and enjoyable game whose lifespan even benefits from a very welcome extension.”

“Old School Musical is much more than a funny hommage to the 8 and 16 bit era. With a strong content of almost 50 tracks and a well-written story mode, La Moutarde's rhythm game delivers a strong content, but you will have to quickly switch to hard mode to face a real challenge. Too bad its classic mecanics avoid taking risks, otherwise it would have been an instant classic on its own.”

“If you are even a little fan of rithm games then you just need to get this game, even if you aren't familiar with the genre it is a perfect place to get into it. The multiple difficulty settings make it a great game for experienced and new players.”

“I could go without the pointless story, but Old School Musical is one of the best rhythm games on the platform at the moment. There's a lot of content to get stuck into, and Switch is the best place to play with its nice HD rumble and console exclusivity. If you're a fan of the genre, or even if you just fancy jamming out to some chiptune, I'd highly recommend this title.”

“There really isn’t anything else quite like Old School Musical. It’s a game that’s been several years in the works, and when the outcome is something as unique and special as this, I daresay every moment was worth it.”

“In closing, I had a fantastic time with Old School Musical. It’s quirky, different, full of humor and charm. For $12.99 you’re getting a hell of a bargain, providing at least 10 hours of gameplay, and that’s without trying to get high scores on all the songs in Arcade mode. La Moutarde wasn’t on my radar before, but they certainly are now. If you own a Switch or game on Steam, Old School Musical is rhythm game you should not miss. Go help Tib and Rob save the day; you won’t regret it.”

“Don’t expect a deep experience here, folks. What you will find is a rather expansive list of artists and songs paying homage to one of the best eras in gaming. I just could have used a little more refinement in its mechanics and the mixture of the additional levels outside the story to do something a little more spectacular during my main playthrough.”
