How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Mostly a game for the fans, Burning Blood is a spectacle fighter game that won't be able to grab you unless you're familiar with the One Piece universe. For the fans though, the game offers quite a lot - from solid gameplay, to familiar story and lovable cast. ”

“Crunchy and colourful, One Piece: Burning Blood does more than enough to grab the attention of both fans and fighting game enthusiasts alike. While some potential balancing issues dull the brawler's competitive edge and the story mode is more of a slog than it needs to be, One Piece's madcap character roster keeps things interesting. It's not quite the bountiful booty that is One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3, but Burning Blood's explosive combat is bound to leave a mark all the same.”

“In terms of looks alone, One Piece: Burning Blood has great presentation, as it feels like it came right out of a manga. In terms of gameplay, though, it's just a decent, and relatively unpolished, fighter of no importance.”

“One Piece Burning Blood is an enjoyable fighting game that will delight fans of the series from beginning to end. There is a lot of fan service, awesome art and great music, but the mechanics lack polish and identity giving fans the sensation of playing just another anime fighting game.”

“One Piece Burning Blood was awesome. Hours could honestly go by while playing simply the campaign mode before even starting Wanted Posters or joining a faction online. What impressed me the most was that it has a fast paced system that was not overly burdened by needing to perform combinations in order to do anything but instead added different layers creating a much smoother experience that was much easier to enter and enjoy over longer periods of time.”

“While One Piece: Burning Blood may look pretty, offer some nice content and a bizarre cast (including a cross dressing pirate based on Rocky Horror Picture Show's Frank N Furter), it wasn't enough to keep me interested. I can't even imagine fans of the anime would get much out of this release, especially as this is just the latest entry in a long line of games based on this franchise.”

“As some may have expected, One Piece: Burning Blood is a game for the fans. There's not much here to get newcomers interested in the franchise, and the very limited scope of the campaign doesn't make the different perspectives any better to deal with. While flawed in places, the fighting system is still fun to mess around with, since it seems to have better control over its chaos, and the other modes give the title more substance. Since the presentation matches the source material quite well, One Piece fans will be pleased enough with this game as they continue with one of the longest manga stories ever told.”

“A fun game for the fans who want to relive one of the most exciting arcs of the One Piece franchise. Lack of difficulty and appeal to those outside of the fandom and complex mechanics that can be easily forgotten unfortunately limit the player base. However with a variety of game modes that'll have players coming back for more, this is a must play for the fans.”

“Fans of One Piece and fighting games alike will find something to enjoy in its flashy fighting system, whether it's the wide range of fan-favourite characters, or the solid fighting mechanics.”

“One Piece: Burning Blood feels like a game where the developers settled for "good enough"”

“One Piece: Burning Blood is a great example of a licensed videogame, and it gets so much right, bringing the characters of One Piece to life in spectacular fashion. It's a shame that the limited and unwelcoming narrative scope and unnecessary difficulty spikes take away from what is otherwise a great arena brawler.”

“Even though it's not One Piece's first game, it is as a PS4 game and the feeling can't be better. It lacks story content, which revolves around Marineford's story arc, and really simple scenarios. Visually, it looks really like Pirate Warriors, although an enhanced modelling of the characters, really fluid and with no framerate drops, make it look closer to the manga. ”
