How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 73 | 4 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 97% | 92 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 96% | 90 | 6 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 91.0, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 9,560 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“I have to say that despite its simplicity, Hidden Folks really entertained me, and I can’t wait for the developers to add more images or create a new game. After finishing the game, you can sign up for a newsletter about new levels, which I didn’t hesitate to do. You can also play it on mobile devices. It’s perfect for killing time on public transit or in the bathroom, but playing on a phone can be a bit limiting due to the smaller screen. When searching through the largest images, you’ll appreciate the overview a large monitor provides. The only downside I see is that you can’t start a new game without deleting your previous progress (the Steam version). So if multiple players are using the same account, you have to take turns.”

“Those who run away at the sound of the words "hidden object game" should actually stay put because Hidden Folks is one of the better ones out there, with its tiny-yet-gargantuan worlds and "mouth-sound" audio effects giving it a unique, playful, and almost magical charm, and the gameplay portion seamlessly blends fun, challenge, and some welcome amounts of cooling off.”

“It is hard to say the game's hand painted illustrations, funny voices or smart tips are the strong points. Hidden Folks will leave you in a very big universe and let you find your own way. The variety and detail of the levels are the other strong points of the game. You will never get exhausted by looking at the cities and the jungles. Searching for something has never been this enjoyable and fun!”

“A nostalgic blast from the past, anyone who ever used to love Where’s Wally and any books of that type will be thrilled by giving Hidden Folks a go. There are no pressures and no limit to speak of, so it really is one of the more relaxing titles around. The sort of game you just want to sit down and play for a couple of chin stroking hours with a piping hot cup of tea.”

“It’s hard to tell whether it’s the mouth-made sound effects, nifty clues, or funny characters that are the cutest part of Hidden Folks, but it’s easy to lose yourself in its strange and captivating world for a couple of hours.”

“Play Hidden Folks. It's just so charming and fun to tap around in this world that feels alive. It's such a simple idea at its core of being a hidden object game, yes. But the artwork, sound design, and the realization of the ambition to create puzzles where you have to find specific folks in the middle of busy, bustling scenes, are all at their peak. Check this game out.”

“As a game, Hidden Folks is still just a hidden object game, but as an experience, it's a lot more than that. Its charming presentation really brings every scene to life and layers in a sense of discovery beyond just finding items on a list. This liveliness is so compelling that it's hard for me not to recommend this game, even if you flat-out don't like hidden object games.”
