How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam β 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

βChop Chop Inc. successfully simulates the act of creating a wood building empire after getting fired from a corporate job, or at least comes the closest I've ever seen. It's a charming, wonderfully fun experience that has all the best elements of a cozy game mixed with a satirical look at the video game industry. It does feel a bit rote after a while, and you may find yourself jumping off it once you've seen everything, but for what it does give you, Chop Chop Inc. is an enjoyable, cozy experience.β

βI had a pretty good time with Chop Chop Inc., all things considered. Itβs janky and gets annoying, but itβs also pretty funny and does a lot with its simple premise. Finding new and weird kinds of trees, upgrading my axe collection, and stumbling into the next goofy scenario were all highlights. Meanwhile, the crafting and moneymaking parts quickly stacked on tedium perhaps faster than the parts I liked could keep pace. As far as punching trees goes, Chop Chop Inc. does a commendable job making the impossible possible: making just that part by itself a fun time.β

βThe problem with Chop Chop Inc. is that it starts off strong then runs out of things to do, long before it runs out of goals. When everything works together at the beginning it's a lot of fun. Finding new areas and new resources, crafting new items, unlocking upgrades and learning how best to use them, etc. And then in the back half it forgets all that and turns to all automated crafting all the time. Take a small pile of missions, tally up the needed resources, automate production for what you can and go out to harvest to create the bits you don't, repeat through several gameplay sessions fueled primarily by the fond memories of when the game was enjoyable rather than a list of tasks. Chop Chop Inc. is half of an incredibly entertaining crafting game with a sharp sense of humor and lots of fun secrets to chase after, and it would have been a fantastic experience if hadn't forgotten all that and wound down to tedium.β
