How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Vanquish is a game without a deep story, with perfect gameplay and the possibility to mess around. It is a very hilarious port with tons of action and some challenges that will make you sweat. The minibosses are really hilarious and even on normal difficulty they present a challenge. Unfortunately the game is very short and straightforward. I recommend buying it on sale for about under 10€, for the price it is a great piece.

It's flat-out ridiculous, designed strictly to amuse, not to offer any greater message.

At the end of six hours, I was feeling as rough as Sam's voice from the challenge, but also coursing with adrenaline -- and a profound desire to walk around high-fiving everyone in sight. Vanquish is a supremely fun and polished action game that makes even Gears of War look like a leisurely stroll, and you simply must not miss it.

Vanquish is a wild ride that sometimes tries too hard to be really important. Stilted dialogue, crammed with unnecessary exposition makes it a let down from a narrative point of view and its incredibly short length means it isn't for everyone. Those problems aside, everything about the game is excellent and it is easy to recommend.

Like Bayonetta before it, Vanquish for the PC is, hands down, the best version yet, and maybe even better than Bayonetta in that regard, as the keyboard and mouse control support fits like a glove. As for its gameplay, it's definitely a title that will offer lots of fun to third-person shooter aficionados, as long as its short length and lack of replayability isn't much of an issue.

It may be basic as a remaster, but Vanquish manages to hold up in the PS4's twilight year. Brimming with enjoyable, fast-paced action which is exemplified by the knee slide, one of PlatinumGames' best experiences has a new lease of life that it's going to take full advantage of. Vanquish doesn't look the part, but it most certainly plays like it.

While other developers pursue more realistic experiences, Platinum never loses sight that it's making a videogame.

Vanquish is fun, it's exciting and it's a fresh take on the cover based shooter that breathes a bit of originality into the genre.
