How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Event[0] is an atmospheric, tense sci-fi yarn that ends too quickly and never lives up to the potential of its innovative core mechanic.”

“Event[0] is a fun, beautiful, innovative, deeply atmospheric, and extremely engrossing experience… but it only touches perfection. From the notion of chatting with the AI using the keyboard in order to overcome obstacles, to the subjects that the plot revolves around, this gives the feeling that it could be so much more. Hopefully, this was nothing more than a great start for Ocelot Society.”

“Event[0] is an interesting game with a very interesting concept. Think of it like HAL 9000, but much more limited in scope and threat. The novelty wore off for me within the first 30 minutes of playing, and unfortunately, then began to look at it more like a game to complete rather than an experience that needed to be seen.”

“There is something fundamentally creepy about Event[0], which is an adventure game with a first person perspective. It is very narrative-driven and also quite short, which may have some people scratching their heads at what the fuss is all about. The thing is, it offers you a connection to a character and the way you own the relationship that is built is both unique and deserves the time to properly explore it.”

“Your enjoyment of Event[0] is going to depend on whether you like chatting. Conversation with AI is the real focus of the game, and even though it is flawed, the system works effectively if you give it a little effort. While the presentation holds up its end of things, the gameplay outside of typing feels stunted; the easy puzzles and very short playtime encompass a story that ends right before it goes anywhere interesting. While it's not the best in its field, Event[0] is still worth trying, so long as you know what you're signing up for.”

“Event[0] has the length and teething pains of a tech demo, but tells a story to beautifully to overlook without good reason.”

“It’s difficult to speak more without delving into the story or spoiling. Event [0] is a unique experience and worthy anyone’s time. Especially for those interested into the sci-fi genre and has a fascination of artificial intelligence.”

“An imaginative, atmospheric, and cleverly designed sci-fi adventure that’s over far too quickly.”

“Event[0] is a visually appealing game with some great sounds to boot. The story however seems loose and doesn’t get fleshing out enough.”

“Clever and original sci-fi short, which is unfortunately running out of breath at the least appropriate places. But it will reward you with some particularly amazing moments. [Issue #268]”

“The idea behind Event[0] is a wonderful one and I would love to see the technology behind Kaizen refined and used in future projects.”
